Arnold Schwarzenegger made a successful transition to comedy with this 1990 box-office hit directed by Ivan Reitman. Arnold plays an undercover cop whose attempt to locate a little boy and his mother leads him to a small-town kindergarten class, where he poses as a teacher while continuing his investigation. He's also trying to catch a vicious drug dealer (Richard Tyson), whose ex-wife and son are the pair that Arnold's trying to rescue from impending danger. The scenes featuring Arnold and a classroom full of kindergartners are a real hoot, and Pamela Reed offers enjoyable support as Schwarzenegger's police partner, while Penelope Ann Miller (as another teacher) provides a low-key romantic interest and Carroll Baker steals her scenes as the villain's domineering mother. These familiar elements combine to make this a surprisingly lively and entertaining comedy-thriller, but parents are advised to heed the PG-13 rating: there are a lot of funny kids in the movie, but it's still a police thriller, with a violent climax that's not suitable for young viewers. --Jeff Shannon

    Description
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as an undercover cop posing as a kindergarten teacher in order to catch a dangerous criminal. Once he wrangles his young charges, as well as the affections of a beautiful teacher (Penelope Ann Miller), he prepares for a final showdown with his intended prey in this "Totally enjoyable" (Ralph Novak, People Magazine) action-comedy from director Ivan Reitman.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely delightful film...successful blend of different genres   July 26, 2008
Crime drama, romance, comedy, CUTE kids (the comedic and cute kids elements often blended together in a *kids say the darndest things* format) - all of these parts make up a satisfying and sweet-natured film! Loved it.

5 out of 5 stars Love this movie!   June 20, 2008
Great movie! Some of the acting is a little cheesy (early Schwarzenegger), but overall clean, funny, and good for the whole family. Saw this movie when I was younger, and have looked for it in movie stores with no luck. But Amazon has it for a good price on their site.

4 out of 5 stars Kindergarten Cop   March 13, 2008
We ordered this movie to show our 5 yr old granddaughter. The reason was to show her how to react to strangers. It did help her to understand what we were getting at. Do not go with people she didn't know or feel safe about, and to let those around her know things weren't right. MAKE A LOAD NOISE YELL "STRANGER"

5 out of 5 stars the cops are coming... to a TV screen near you   January 4, 2008
Back in the early to mid 90's, family films such as this one were extremely popular. Everyone seemed to love them, too. Of course, as time goes on, people eventually get an urge for something different, and that's exactly what happened. However, looking back, Kindergarten Cop is easily a very pleasant film that holds up nicely, mostly because it's just a simple straight-forward family movie with a nice and easy storyline. You can easily follow along without getting annoyed at any difficult-to-grasp storyline twists or anything like that.

It's funny since I'm an adult now and thinking how back in the day Arnold used to be considered one of the baddest guys in town. Now, however, you can see there's plenty of action stars who look more impressive. That's not to take away from his acting abilities. I'm just pointing out he doesn't look as intimidating to me now. Sure, his muscles were fairly big in the movie, but we've all seen much bigger.

When Arnold walks into a classroom filled with a bunch of 5 year olds, you know it's going to be quite funny. What's amazing to me is how the children seemed so smart for their age. They were aware of some adult situations that many kids wouldn't be aware of until they reach 3rd grade.

Also, more often than not, the story will switch directions into a bunch of single women finding Arnold attractive as the Kindergarten teacher, and either hitting on him, or trying to look impressive when around him. These are good scenes as well.

Of course, it's a family movie, and looking at some of the children in the Kindergarten class you will recognize a few of them that went on to become even bigger stars. A great movie.

4 out of 5 stars When Arnold is a kindergarten teacher kids will be illiterate but at least they'll have ripped muscle mass   September 25, 2007

Good morning how are you? This is us, Sid the Elf. How are you? First, we would just like to review this documentary about a time in Arnold Schwarzenegger's life when he decided to be an undercover cop and a kindergarten teacher at the same time. Thus, the documentary is entitled Kindergarten Cop. This film gives us some possible insight as to why Arnold can barley speak. Not once during the film did he teach his students academics. Instead, he focused on sit-ups, propper technique for lat pull-downs, and his ferret(which came out like fuerrett when Arnold said it).

This man is amazing. In the 70's he allowed filmmakers to document his life as a 5-time Mr. Olympia, the title given to the world's foremost consumer of grilled chicken. Then, in 1990, he let us back into his life as we see his softer side while he saves a young boy and his mother from a very dangerous Steven Segal lookalike. Arnold goes undercover in a small Oregon town to find the son and ex-wife of the villan and his mother who is also a villan. Strange subplot here. Anyway, Arnold finally finds out who the mother and ex are and actually falls in love with the ex-wife. One of the biggest shocks of the movie comes at the end, when someone unexpected saves the day. Anyway, back to Arnold. He is now governor of the great state of Cali-fornia. Amazing! The reason Sid loves Arnold so much is because there are a number of soundboards dedicated to him and Kindergarten Cop features a whopping 28 soundboard lines that make this unintentional comedy comedy hillarious. That's the best part of the movie, picking out soundboard lines.

So, if someone tells you Kindergarten Cop is a bad movie, say "No it is not true. It got Sid the Elf's seal of approval."
