Product Description Fourth in the series of uber-successful action films directed by Richard Donner. Gibson and Glover return as Los Angeles detectives who can't seem to get through a day without a shooting, a robbery, or a car chase.
Amazon.com In the fourth and reportedly final film of the Lethal Weapon series, director Richard Donner reunites with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, who reprise their roles as Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh for one last hurrah in a film that is decidedly better than the third and first chapters. This time the pair are pitted against Jet Li, who plays the leader of a Chinese organized crime unit. Li, a veteran of hundreds of Hong Kong action films, more than holds his own against the more established team of Gibson, Glover, Renee Russo, and Joe Pesci with his subtle yet strong portrayal of the quietly irrepressible Wah Sing Ku. As always with the Lethal series, the plot is incredibly simple to follow: someone steals something, someone gets killed, and Murtaugh is reluctantly thrown into the mix while Riggs dives into the case with gleeful aplomb. As with the previous movies, we watch for the sheer action and chemistry alone. The action sequences throughout the fourth installment are exquisite, from the opening scene involving a flamethrower, a burning building, and a half-naked Murtaugh strutting like a chicken (don't ask, just watch), to the climactic showdown that pays genuine tribute to Jet Li's masterful martial art skills. As for chemistry, the bond between these characters is so strong by now that you sometimes feel like you're watching a TV series in its sixth season, such is the warm familiarity between the audience and the personalities on the screen. The humor is more fluid than ever, aided immeasurably by the casting of comedian Chris Rock, who like Li does a great job of making his presence known in some memorable verbal tirades that would bring a smile out of the Farrelly brothers. But it's the verbal and emotional jousting between Glover and Gibson that makes this fourth episode especially appealing; both are in peak form with great physical and verbal timing. One can only hope that if this is indeed the last of the Lethal films, that it won't be the last time we see Glover and Gibson together on screen. --Jeremy Storey

Best Of LW Sequels & A Good DVD 'Demo' March 12, 2009 Craig Connell (Lockport, NY USA) I read somewhere when the DVD of this film came out that it would be a good "demo" model for dealers trying to sell DVD players and surround-sound equipment. Well, they were right; it's awesome, or at least it was back in '99 when the disc came out, back when few people had DVD players. A decade later, it's still top-of-line for picture and sound. When bullets are flying around, you hear them from all five speakers. Here it is 10 years later and we still find many films without this kind of excellent surround-speaker participation. The Lethal Weapon series, this being the fourth and last of them, was popular because of the combination of action, comedy, suspense, romance and drama. For me, they wore thin because the characters were too loud - always shouting at each other, too profane, too smug, and the action often was overdone. This sequel is no exception, although it was a little tamer than the first three Lethal Weapons, that is until going berserk again in the final few scenes, one of which - the hospital scene - was totally unnecessary. To be honest, some of the action scenes in this movie were amazing even if they had no credibility. You just have to suspend belief and enjoy some of the outrageous scenes in here. With all that goes on in this film, as in the three previous LWs, you are worn out by the end. If you are a fan of this series, this last sequel should please. I thought it was the best of them.
LETHAL WEAPON 4 (Riggs getting older and slower) November 14, 2008 dennis teel (texas usa) While i liked the film overall,i was disappointed by the fact that in this last installment,it was obviously the intent of the 'creators' of his character to present him as being older and slower. Was this a method of ending the trilogy in a manner that fans would accept or feel comfortable with? i'm not sure, but i know i felt a bit let down by watching my favorite action hero actually confess within the movie that he was getting slower and getting too old for this s***! what disturbed me even more was that he was getting his butt kicked at every turn and in a couple battles he got his bottom saved by someone else.apart from the things i just mentioned, however,i liked the film. i like the martin riggs character. i just wish that he would have been more of the tough, fast fighting "nobody can touch me" that he was in the first 3.
BORING!!! August 20, 2008 Robert E. Patty (Murfreesboro, TN United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed the first 3 Lethal Weapon movies, but this one is a snoozer. Chris Rock is funny as a comedian, but as an actor he's in need of some serious help. The whole movie was so overblown that it's just ridiculous! Don't waste your money. If you really must see it borrow it. It's not even worth the time to watch really, much less the cost to rent. Even Mel Gibson can't save this one from the trash heap.
America still stands for amazing action July 28, 2008 Pascal Gillon (San Diego,CA USA) Having worked and lived in five countries and seen about 4000 movies (at least) in three languages, I can confirm that this shows what America is still made of when you want to see amazing action, point. Not many countries makes that kind of adrenaline positive rush action movies...Lethal weapons movies are A for ace!
Mel Gibson,Danny GloverJoe Pesci,Rene Russo,Chris Rock, and Jet Li (3.5/5) March 1, 2008 falcon (canada) out of all four movies in the series, this is probably the loudest and most chaotic, but that doesn't mean it was a bad movie.i think the storyline was a bit thin and not really all that original, but just like in part three, the action, and the chemistry of the stars makes up for that.and this movie also has more laughs than the previous installments, many courtesy of both Joe Pesci and Chris Rock.Rene Russo is back, along with Mel and Danny.Jet Li joins the proceedings in this one,and brings some spectacular fight scenes courtesy of his martial arts skill.i don't know if this is the best of the series, but i thought it was as good as number three, which i really liked.for me,Lethal Weapon 4 is a 3.5/5
