Product Description IN THE YEAR 2032, PSYCHOPATHIC CRIMINAL SIMON PHOENIX IS THAWED FROM A CRYOGENIC STATE FOR A PAROLE HEARING. BUT HE ESCAPES AND BEGINS A RAMPAGE THROUGH THE PEACEFUL CITY OF SAN ANGELES. ONLY JOHN SPARTAN A '90S KIND OF COP, CAN BE THAWED TO FACE PHOENIX, A '90S KIND OF CRIMINAL.
Amazon.com Searching for new directions, Sylvester Stallone starred in this farcical, 1993 SF piece about an ex-cop (Stallone) freed from 36 years of forced hibernation to help catch a criminal (Wesley Snipes) who released himself from a similar incarceration. The futuristic story finds Los Angeles a sea of Taco Bells and enforced peace, and within that satiric overview Stallone's character becomes a gun-toting fish out of water. The film plays like a live-action cartoon, and while there is nothing particularly wrong with that, Demolition Man is a rather flat experience. The irony of a peaceable society that both requires and despises its bloody saviors has been captured far more profoundly in movies like Dirty Harry. Sandra Bullock costars. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, production notes, theatrical trailer, Dolby sound, optional Spanish soundtrack, and optional French and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

Demolition Man March 13, 2010 Clifford Leroy Blevins Jr. (houston, tx United States) This is a great movie with plenty of action and enough comic relief to keep it from being too dark. The DVD itself however is a mess. I have been through several copies over the years and they all have the same problem. The layout of the disk defaults to playing the movie with director's commentary on and the setup menu has no effect at all. You have to have a button on your remote that toggles audio after movie starts. I have four players and only one has this feature.
Demolition Man January 25, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) Los Angeles in the year 1996. The streets are ruled by acts of violence and terror, nothing and nobody is safe. Simon Phoenix is one of the worst criminals that Los Angeles has ever seen, and only one man can stop him - L.A.P.D. officer John "Demotion Man" Spartan. When John apprehended Phoenix, he was surprisingly found as an accessory to the recent crime and was also sent to the "Cryo Prison". During John Spartan's sentence, Los Angeles' theme and society had dramatically changed from one of violence to one of peace. Phoenix, revived for a parole hearing managed to escape and uses Los Angles to his advantage. The Police are unable to stop him with their non-violent solutions and have no choice but to let out John Spartan to stop him. Now, Spartan not only has to stop Phoenix, but to adapt himself to the future society he has no knowledge about. The humor in the movie is exceptional, and Wesley Snipes is great as Simon Phoenix. A silly, but fun movie to watch.
Welcome to the FUTURE! January 19, 2010 Michael Valdivielso (Alexandria, VA) What kind of movie is this? An action flick? A movie warning us about the bland, boring, goodie-goodie future to come? A comedy? A horror film? Demolition Man can be many things. But boring is not one of them. Full of humor, explosions, stars who were big or about to become big, this movie is a must see. And you will see it. Again and again. The DVD has production notes, a trailer and even a commentary track, which makes it a great find. Many early DVDs just do not have the extras. How can you NOT like a film with Sandra Bullock, Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and rat burgers! Yummy!
A Classic from Stallone September 2, 2009 Ramon Cholico (Rio Rico, AZ) No more to say, if you've seen it, you know it's a classic on Sylvester Stallone's work
Great 90's Stallone if you're into that kind of thing January 15, 2009 Vic Sage (Melbourne Fl) This is one of those movies that motivated Last Action Hero to be made. That being said, it's a great representation of the genre. If you like the 90's action movies, this one should be a classic. It's got a good idea, and a fun premise. I'll admit, it probably isn't for everybody...but I really enjoyed it. If it's not too expensive you should at least give it a chance.
