Product Description A reworking of the legend with a stand-out performance by Alan Rickman as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Academy Award Nominations: Best Song ("(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" by Bryan Adams and John Lange).
Amazon.com Kevin Costner's lousy English accent is a small obstacle in this often exciting version of the Robin Hood fable. That aside, it's refreshing to have a preface to the old story in which we meet the robber hero of Sherwood Forest as a soldier in King Richard's Crusades, coming home to find his people under siege from the cruelties of the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). After Robin and his community of outcasts and fighters take to the trees, director Kevin Reynolds (Fandango, 187) is on more familiar narrative ground, and he goes for the gusto with lots of original action (Robin shoots two arrows simultaneously from his bow in two directions). Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, as Marion, makes a convincing damsel in distress, and Morgan Freeman brings dignity to his role as Robin's Moor friend. Alan Rickman, however, gets the most attention for his scene-chewing role as the rotten sheriff, an almost campy performance that is highly entertaining but perhaps a little out of sorts with the rest of the film. --Tom Keogh

robin hood prince of thieves July 4, 2009 Kimberly Sudduth (South Carolina, USA) This is a great movie, Kevin Costner does a great job. Like most of his movies, it has action, drama, comedy, and romance all in one.
Flip the disc? Are you kidding?! July 2, 2009 Jason R. Hefner (Naples, Italy) No joke. You have to flip the DVD right in the middle of the movie to watch the whole thing. Fun movie...but I hear they make VHS tapes that will play all the way through.
Bows, Arrows, Damsels......Too Right !!! June 28, 2009 G. Welsh (Midwest) One of the reasons I've always liked this movie is its unique spin on the classic tale of Robin Hood. Same characters, different approach. Yes Costners' accent seems to come and go (although....really, who cares?), and yes it might be historically innaccurate, but all in all, it's just meant to be a fun, adventurous, and yes......romantic story. The supporting cast is great, the action scenes are very well shot, and the point of the story still shines through, good triumphs over evil, and there is a happy ending (with a cameo from Sean Connery). This film was, and has always been presented in a "friendly" widescreen format, as opposed to an anamorphic widescreen. The quality of the regular DVD on a tube tv is pretty decent, the quality of the Blu-Ray is the result of the original movie transfer, and is not going to be "Batman: The Dark Knight" quality (one of the best quality Blu-Rays to date), but it will look better on your HDTV than the remastered regular DVD Extended Version, which came out a few years ago.
Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves June 25, 2009 P. Almeida (u.s.a) I know this might sound corny but I really enjoyed Kevin Costner's performance as the price of thieves , he I thought brought the essence of the charter , yes I know he didn't have and English accent neither did Clark Gable in Gone with the wind but people still loved the movie , this movie was helped out a lot by those two very great actors Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman , both did great jobs especially Alan Rickman as the sheriff of Nottingham funny stuff, this has to one of my favorite versions of Robin hood , my favorite scene of the movie is robin looking at Maid Marian rowing out towards the lake in the mist.
Robin Hood June 24, 2009 J. Spurgeon This movie is awesome. Has been one of my favorites for a long time. Kevin Costner at his best. Great supporting cast as well. This movie is second to none. Great gift along with Three Musketeers starring Charlie Sheen, Oliver Platt, and Rebecca Demornay.
