Amazon.com essential video After they first worked together on the 1966 film This Property Is Condemned, director Sydney Pollack and Robert Redford continued their long-lasting collaboration with this 1972 drama set during the mid-1800s, about one man's rugged effort to shed the burden of civilization and learn to survive in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. Will Geer is perfectly cast as the seasoned trapper who teaches Jeremiah Johnson (Redford) how to survive against harsh winters, close encounters with grizzly bears, and hostile Crow Indians. In the course of his adventure, Johnson marries the daughter of a Flathead Indian chief, forms a makeshift family, and ultimately assumes a mythic place in Rocky Mountain folklore. Shot entirely on location in Utah, the film boasts an abundance of breathtaking widescreen scenery, and the story (despite a PG rating) doesn't flinch from the brutality of the wilderness. --Jeff Shannon

Jeremiah Johnson June 23, 2009 Inge Dunham (Hope AR) I have watched this movie more than once over the years, never did get tired of it.
ONE OF REDFORDS BEST! June 22, 2009 ! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b (TRI STATE AREA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Watching this film on one of my HD channels I could really appreciate the beautiful scenery in this story of a man who leaves the civilized world to live in the mountains and live off the land. Redford is quiet and understated in this engrossing film as he learns the ways of the mountain country. Will Geer gives a wonderful performance as a seasoned old trapper in this tale of mountain survival in the 1800's. Redford deals with starvation, encounters Indians and dangerous wild life while trying to blend into the unforgiving wilderness. I'm not sure how this DVD looks, but the movie is one of the best of it's kind and worth checking out.

Stuck on Jeremiah Johnson June 13, 2009 David H. Davis (Columbus, Ohio) I have been impressed with the movie "Jeremiah Johnson" since it first came out. i watched it, for years, every time I could. I am very happy with your dvd version. It works real good. The combination of Robert Redford, snd The "Great" Will Geer epitpmozes wilderness life.
Disappointment June 2, 2009 David G. Kaufman (Chapel Hill, NC,USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jeremiah Johnson is a movie I love; it's a mountain thing. I got this DVD because I thought the video would be so much better than my old VHS and it was. My disappointment was that the audio was very poorly synchronized to the video on this DVD. My recommendation would be to listen to the sound track or watch the video, just don't do both at the same time. Shame on you Amazon for not having better quality control on your merchandise.
