Product Description AN UNFLINCHING SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS LOOK AT THE RISE AND FALL OF A POWERFUL NEW YORK DRUG LORD AND A DOOMED CRACK ADDICT. A CONTROVERSIAL PORTRAIT OF THE REALTIES OF DRUG ABUSE.
Amazon.com Some pundits called it a flawed, exploitative action film that glamorized drug dealing and the luxury of a lucrative criminal lifestyle, spawning a trend of films that attracted youth gangs and provoked violence in theaters. Others hailed it as a breakthrough movie that depicted drug dealers as ruthless, corrupt, and evil, leading dead-end lives that no rational youth would want to emulate. However you interpret it, New Jack City is still one of the first and best films of the 1990s to crack open the underworld of cocaine and peer inside with its eyes wide open. It's also the film that established Wesley Snipes as an actor to watch, with enough charisma to bring an insidious quality of seduction to his role as coke-lord Nino Brown, and enough intelligence to portray a character deluded by his own sense of indestructible power. Director Mario Van Peebles stretched his otherwise-limited talent to bring vivid authenticity and urgency to this crime story, and subplots involving a pair of tenacious cops (Ice-T, Judd Nelson) and a recovering coke addict (Chris Rock) provide additional dramatic tension. Although some critics may hesitate to admit it, New Jack City deserves mention in any serious discussion about African American filmmakers and influential films. --Jeff Shannon

Taking over the Carter wasn't easy but it got done January 21, 2010 G. H. D. lll (Plainfield, NJ) Everyone wants to be like Nino Brown but you cant sell drugs forever. The movie is very 90's and its a classic. In 2009 im hearing rapper also using some form of New Jack City in thier rythmes or songs. For example The LOX- Brothers Keeper, Uncle Murda said " If I was Nino I wouldn't give pookie a job" there is more. Itz scareface in the hood its all about Money, Power, and Respect.
New Jack City January 1, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) A battle between a merciless drug lord and a street smart cop. The rise and fall of a gangster is done often but rarely with the grit and style of this movie. The acting is first rate ,Wesley Snipes was born to play Nino Brown. The morale message sinks in without being to preachy or self-rightous. Wow what a movie.
best gangsta movie will keep u off ur feet December 10, 2009 A. Hendrix (USA) there is no gangsta movie that compares to this stuff..... it gives a PERFECT depiction of how inner city america is plagued by drug lords while it displays the bad guy watchin scarface and feelin powerful. there is a MASSIVE body count and u never know whats goin to happen next
chris rock, wesley snipes and ice T are good in this, and all of the acting is so good u will never see wesley snipes the same again hes a VERY vile person and even holds a kid as a human shield, he kills LOTS of people in this like a terminator and ice T is excellent in this movie as the cop and really has passion in his role
the drug empire in the movie is invincible and wesley snipes is too smart for authorities and NEVER gets caught til the very end, and is about to get a short sentence and plays the system. It gives a GREAT look at how cocaine damages society, how money helps warp the justice system and how difficult it is for cops.
in addition, they put 2 guys who HATE EACHOTHERS GUTS as partners and they finally unite to bring down wesley snipes, while they resort to dirty tactics to get him
the action is GREAT the lines and dialogue is EXCELLENT and the entire movie is a masterpiece
