Product Description Based on the true story of principal Joe Clark and his struggle to instill discipline and encourage learning in his New Jersey high school. Mr. Clark is known for his use of a bullhorn and a baseball bat. Genre: Feature Film-Drama Rating: PG13 Release Date: 8-FEB-2005 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com essential video Rocky director John Avildsen championed the briefly famous New Jersey high school principal Joe Clark in this upbeat 1989 drama. Morgan Freeman plays the tough-love educator who wields a baseball bat and bullhorn to keep discipline in his hallways and to motivate underachieving students to keep their acts together. After establishing Clark's controversial methods and showing him giving some punks the boot, Avildsen relies on the usual school-drama clichés to fill out the rest of the movie, including a challenge to Clark's philosophy from timid authorities. Freeman makes a strong impact as Clark, his dignity and integrity a sometimes awesome thing. Avildsen, however, is going for a Rocky-esque emotional crescendo. --Tom Keogh

Lean on Me January 5, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) The story of controversial New Jersey high school principal Joe Clark. Morgan Freeman is truly on top of his game in this late-80's inspirational school-based movie. Freeman is so powerful in this movie."Lean On Me" will definitely have you grinning broadly by the time the credits roll.
One of Morgan Freeman's Great Performances November 12, 2009 The JuRK (Our Vast, Cultural Desert) I saw this movie when it was first released and loved its performances and messages. The inspirational story, based on the controversial Joe Clark, gives the movie an authenticity that pays off.
After all these years, I'm watching it again and appreciating what a great performance we get from Morgan Freeman. Every line, every expression--just priceless. Rolling his eyes as he reads answers over a student's shoulder during a test made me laugh out loud. His nonstop rants against students, teachers, parents, pretty everybody are both funny and powerful.
Around this same time, Freeman put out two other movies. One was GLORY. The speech he gives as a former slave-turned-soldier at the campfire before the big climactic battle brought tears to my eyes. The other movie was STREET SMART with Christopher Reeve. Freeman plays a pimp who blackmails Reeve for an alibi and he's absolutely chilling. That an actor can go from powerful righteousness to pure evil in two movies is amazing.
LEAN ON ME is a good movie with a wonderful message. But it's a great performance from one of our finest American actors.
Lean On Me August 18, 2009 V. DeKleine (Grand Haven, MI USA) Great DVD. Based on a true story. One person can make a difference! Joe Clark "cleans up" a troubled high school and improves the quality of education for all.
Effective Education At Any Cost June 1, 2009 Lynette E. Johnson Dynamic, thought provoking, reality of events in the public education system. In short, drastic changes require drastic measures in order to achieve the intended results.
Excellence in business April 20, 2009 Blanquita I keep on doing business with you because of your excellence in service:
I received this excellent movie before the date promised, and in mint condition.
Please keep it this way.

Mercedes
