Amazon.com The African Queen meets Swept Away in this sometimes labored romantic comedy by director Ivan Reitman. Fortunately, he cast an old pro in Harrison Ford, as Quinn Harris, a South Seas charter pilot who must ferry New York fashion editor Robin Monroe (Anne Heche) from one island to another--a hop that falls flat when they fly into a mammoth storm that causes them to crash on a deserted island. The pair resent and resist each other, until they are forced to team up to escape from the island--and some modern pirates who want their heads. If that part of the story is unconvincing, you can always focus on the smoldering comic chemistry between Heche, who displays strong comic instincts, and the ever-reliable Ford. The script is just an excuse for these two flinty characters to strike increasingly romantic sparks off each other, which is always enjoyable to watch. --Marshall Fine

Six Days & seven nights soundtrack WONDERFUL! January 24, 2010 Sherri L. Huffman (Houston,Texas USA) I love this movie and part of the pleasure of watching it is the wonderful music. The sound track is out of production so I had to purchase a slightly used one. All I can say is I can't believe anyone would be willing to sell their copy! It is a mixture of a lovely relaxing melody, very lovely and some island music which is fun and has a great beat, so they change the pace back and forth. What else can I say....I ENJOY LISTENING TO IT DAILY WHILE DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK.. Makes for a great ride! Six Days, Seven Nights: Original Soundtrack
Six Day`s,Seven Nights: Original SoundTrack January 23, 2010 Daniel F. Parker (By clicking "Continue" I attest that this is my real name.) Perfect, I have played this Sound Track every day since it arrived. It is flawless. Thank You!
old goats, wild oats January 9, 2010 zinger (USA) When I saw the following review, I laughed out loud.
"Second rate movie with a third rate plot. Ford is beginning to show his age. To make matters worse -- Heche's character is totally uninteresting; a real airhead. Now why would a middle-aged man, who supposedly is wordly, go for a young woman, who between the ears is nothing more than a wind tunnel? How much more entertaining and intriquing this movie could have been if the woman's part was played by someone closer to Ford's age and sophistication! It would have given Ford's character a run for his money, and we would really see the sparks fly. (Ah yes, but this is Hollywood -- no guts, and always choose the easy way out). The pirates were a bit much. Could have been a good flick, but got wasted away -- as usual."
My guess is this review was written by a woman closer to Ford's age, who considers herself to be `sophisticated', and someone who could give Ford's character a 'run for his money'. Whether Harrison, or Quinn, can actually be considered `sophisticated' is another question, which I won't address.
Instead, let's address the question of why a middle-aged man would go for a young woman who may have nothing to offer in the intellect department. Is there anyone out there, other than sophisticated older women, who have any questions about that? Well, maybe we should discuss it, just in case. When a man looks at a woman, various factors are at play. There is the learned response, and there is the programmed response. The programmed response is the result of millions of years of evolution. It says that one should mate with someone who is likely to produce successful offspring. A young mate is more likely to produce successful offspring, and it would be nice if the offspring were nice-looking, so it's safer to pick a mate who is nice-looking. Simple, isn't it? Men may be able to ignore this programming and choose a sophisticated older woman as a companion, but if they do, they are ignoring their evolutionary programming. Young people will say that the old should recognize that their day is done, please fade away, etc, but the fact remains that the programming is still there.
Let's not forget the fact that Quinn starts off with a twenty-something playmate, and winds up with a thirty-something New York sophisticate. That is progress, right? Maybe he did realize that middle age was upon him, and it was time to find someone more his age.
As to the movie, I love the scenery, and I like the fact that the middle-aged man finds happiness - or at least, the prospect of some quality sack-time.
Great full screen comedy November 16, 2009 Richard Franks A wonderful story with no dull spots. Probably Harrison Ford's best effort. A purely adult film but well done.
A BEST "aviation movie" November 9, 2009 Ned F. Atwell (Waukesha, WI) For me, this is one of those wonderful aviation movies such as "Airplane". I expect that it may not be a "great" movie BUT it IS "great" fun. I have found that there are several individual scenes that just become a joy to review and share with others. (I am a pilot of general aviation aircraft and may be a bit prejudiced with my viewpoint.)
