A classic take on a true Diva July 5, 2008 Michael R. Berg 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection Brought back memories of a ground breaking artist who was set on showing the US and the world that a woman can be as sexual as a man. Her take me or leave me sassy spirited style set about fashion trends as well as making way for other woman who express them selves musically or sexually or art was exactly what Madonna set about to show the world. Her acts of humanity is what made this rebels anticts tolerated by many who would just wish she would go away. Well she did show them she is still going strong and has an edge we all love and adore. A must have classic take on Madonna's ground breaking and explicitly shocking historic videos. You get to see controversary at its best with the Like a Prayer video that caused an uproar among christians, parental groups, and even congress that launched Pepsi into a new generation. Pepsi of course responded by dropping Madonna and her video from it's comercial campaign. Buy it now.
A Classic Masterpiece To This Day! March 30, 2008 *lovelygirl* These videos were very nicely arranged in a very well organized fashion as you see Madonna from her earlier beginnings with her hair held with a rag, rubber bracelets, lace gloves, hanging crucifixes, cross earrings, and funky nail polish to the short haired Marilyn Monroe style with little or no jewelry, less make-up, diverse hair color changes (wigs), and even a Marie Antoinette costume for the last song (Vogue). It is evident to the viewer that Madonna transforms her persona as the songs progress. There is another video available that has "Burning Up" as well as "Borderline", "Lucky Star", and "Like A Virgin" and is titled, MADONNA (VHS). The Queen of Pop presents herself with astonishing talent, diversity, drama, and at the same time lets her viewers know that everything she does has a meaning behind it. There are videos of all themes to enjoy from innocent or love ones like "Borderline" and "Like A Virgin" to sexy provocative one's like "Express Yourself" as Madonna is not fully clothed and wears a slave chain around her neck. Other styles to enjoy would include the sentimental ones like "Oh Father" displaying the pains of child abuse or the joys of life like "Cherish". For fans of the other eras you get to see Madonna wearing an identical dress designed for Marilyn Monroe in Howard Hawk's 1953 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in her song, "Material Girl". Furthermore, Madonna displays her appeal to reach all her diverse fans as she wears a bolero jacket and Spanish dress for "La Isla Bonita" embracing some of the Hispanic culture--which would later help her in "Evita" and "Take A Bow". An important thing worth mentioning is "Like A Prayer" as Madonna takes her strict upbringing to surface as she addresses interracial and religious issues that also show just how non-judgmental she is and how beautiful she is as a person as well as a super star. Even more meaningful to some, Madonna addresses other controversial issues like alternative lifestyles and even teenage pregnancy in videos like "Open Your Heart", "Vogue" and "Papa Don't Preach". As you decide whether to buy this remember that the 80's was a time in Madonna's life where many different changes took place and despite her vast personas her fans always followed her knowing in their hearts she would be a legend forever. So don't hesitate and buy it today, you will love it! *Mary Lambert directed the following videos: Material Girl, Borderline, and Like A Virgin. Jamie Foley directed Papa Don't Preach. Jean-Baptiste Mondino directed Open Your Heart. David Fincher directed Express Yourself. Cherish was directed by Herb Ritts. There are 2 versions of "Vogue" the last one being from the 1990 MTV Awards Show where Madonna is dressed as Marie Antoinette as a special benefit for AIDS Project L.A.
anachronistic weirdness December 30, 2007 C. Miller (Park City, UT) 1 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is obviously very old news. madonna is a ho, she likes to ho, and is in charge of her own hoing. She has also inspired another generation of exploitative hos, and this is obviously all ok because she likes it (as, probably do they). Well, I for one would like to register the opinion that I DON'T like it, and that even if I did, I would not think that it should be brought onto the job. If she wishes to explore her sexuality, I believe it should be on her own time and preferably within the privacy of her own home. It is not interesting. It is not professional. And it is not all about her and what she likes. Thank you. PS I would give it zero stars, but there are some good hooks in here. I would just rather listen to songs by professionals.
VINTAGE MADONNA AT HER BEST!! August 1, 2007 Raphael V. (Westchester, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Immaculate Collection For any Madonna fan, this is a must own CD. It contains all of her hits starting with "Everybody," "Holiday," and "Vogue." These are the original single versions and they still hold up wonderfully. Her great dance music and terrific arrangements are all in evidence. Hopefully, this CD will never be discontinued because it has remained a best seller for years.
