Product Description THIS FLAWLESS, FEEL-GOOD MUSICAL FEATURES A CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD SCORE, INCLUDING TILL THERE WAS YOU, 75 TROMBONES, AND TROUBLE.
Amazon.com essential video The Music Man was one of the last great movie musicals from any studio, and it proved to be that rarest of events: a Broadway show that was measurably improved by its transition to the screen. Robert Preston made his musical debut--both live and on film--as "Professor" Harold Hill, the upbeat charlatan who promises to teach a small-town boys band by the "think system." But it's the part Preston was born to play and the one for which he will always be best remembered. Composer Meredith Willson based The Music Man on his own small-town Midwestern boyhood, circa 1912, a quasi-mythical place where the old-maid librarian looks and sings like Shirley Jones. The boy himself is an adorable Ron Howard, lisp-singing "Gary, Indiana." Willson's entire score, featuring a combination of what are now standards, such as "Goodnight My Someone" and "Till There Was You" and show-specific numbers ("Trouble," "76 Trombones"), is never less than infectious. This dazzling special edition is also as bright and sunny as any 4th of July in Iowa could ever hope to be. --Robert Windeler

The Music Man June 30, 2009 Thomas J. Pirkle Excellent serice. My video arrived on time and in great condition. I was very satisfied.
The Original is Best June 28, 2009 Alexander Douglas (Cedar Hill, TX United States) I love the Music Man. I grew up as a child watching it every 4th of July. In 2003 I saw a new version of it starring Matthew Broderick. Having not watched it for a decade or so, I was anxious to see it. But what a disappointment that was. Broderick had none of the wily charm that Robert Preston brought to the role. That prompted me to buy a copy of the 1962 original. It is hundreds of times better, and well worth the purchase if one loves the Music Man.
Awesome Musical!!!!!!!! June 27, 2009 Doc (Rock Hill, SC USA) I say if you have not sen this musical you have missed one fo the greats!!!
The Music Man June 2, 2009 M. Angell (LHC, AZ USA) An all-time favorite. Great music and great talent. Shirley Jones and Robt. Preston are wonderful and Ron Howard is such a young little fellow in this movie and cute as a bug. Wonderful classic.
Loved it! May 22, 2009 Dallas Gypsy (Florida) I bought this for my boyfriend because he was toodling around on the piano with "Lida Rose" and "Goodnight, My Someone." So, I thought he might like to have the movie. He LOVES!!! it. In fact, we both enjoyed watching it. The songs, the actors (especially little Ronnie Howard) ... now that was when movies were movies.
