Amazon.com Paying homage to both The Road Warrior and The Lost Boys, Solarbabies is set in a futuristic world where water is scarce, children are locked away in orphanages, and a glowing ball of frenetic energy has the power to make dreams a reality. Released theatrically in 1986, the film's cast includes a who's who of some of that decade's most popular young actors: Jami Gertz (Sixteen Candles, Less Than Zero) is alpha girl Terra; Jason Patric (The Lost Boys, Rush)) portrays hot teen Jason; and Lukas Haas (Witness, Alpha Dog) co-stars as young deaf Danny. Through plucky perseverance and a skillful knowledge of skateball (a roller version of hockey), the kids come up with a plan to save civilization from the corporate dictatorship that rations the free flow of water and also save themselves from their stifling lives in the orphanage. As Terra points out, "We must have parents somewhere." Some of the sets seem so inspired by the The Road Warrior films that you half expect Tina Turner to pop out, referring to them as Raggedy Children. Instead, we get bon mots (again from Terra) such as, "Get out, you creature of filth!" The film has a certain cheesy charm that may appeal to viewers in their mid-teens. While not an original film by any means, it does include suspense and a surprising amount of heart. --Jae-Ha Kim

Great June 29, 2009 Georgina L. Sadler (Florida) The memory his movie stayed with me all these years. I was so happy that I found it on Amazon. It's just a s great as I remembered it to be.
Solarbabies April 27, 2009 Andrew J. Newlin (Indianapolis) Solarbabies is one of the quintacential movies of the 80's. It has everything from cheesy custumes and mediocre dialog. I recommend everyone see this movie at least once!
Flash back to the 80's with a good fammily flick February 8, 2009 Taira Hopkins (Eugene , OR USA) This is a classic 80's flick with all the "new" specia effects of those days. it was a wounderful story of friendship, hope, and determination. it takes place in the future , when the rains have stopped and water is scares. the army rules and homeless and parentless children are sent to camps more like prisons. through in your usual bad guys, vs good guys, add an alien and boom, an instant cult classic. if this is your first time seeing it you may think its an over done story with the save the water thing, but this is probably the one that started all the others since then. its still a most enjoyable flick and safe for the hole family.
Solarbabies January 8, 2009 J. desautels (York, S.C. USA) This a futuristic movie about some kids who take on their repressive government with the help of a glowing ball from outer space. It is an exciting story about good vs. evil. We saw it years ago and were delighted to find it again. I wouldn't recommend it for young children, but older ones and adults are sure to enjoy this movie.
