Amazon.com A slick, sometimes over the top action adventure set in New York City during the end of the disco era, Nighthawks stars Sylvester Stallone as a hotshot New York cop with a troubled personal life drawn into an international terrorist vendetta. Stallone and partner Billy Dee Williams are recruited into a covert operation to stop an infamous terrorist named Wulfgar (Rutger Hauer), whom they believe to be in New York. Soon a cat-and-mouse game ensues between the blue-collar cop and the refined terrorist through the streets, discotheques, and subways of the city. And then things get personal as Wulfgar targets Stallone's wife (Lindsay Wagner). A fairly routine but well-photographed action thriller with the usual fast-paced adrenaline rush sequences for which Stallone has become famous. --Robert Lane

Frank Train and Billy D team up for cheesy law enforcement and steamy man love February 23, 2010 Sid the Elf (North Pole) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A change in scenery also means a change in ondemand options. Well, the North Pole South has quite possibly the worst ondemand in the world. So Sid had to find other means to quench an insatible B thirst. Thankfully Hulu has a plethora of B in their movie section. So when Sid saw the chance to add to our Stallone section with Nighthawks, we ran with it. There is no bigger fan of Sly's B than Sid, however Nighthawks had never been thought of to review until now. Although this was early Stallone, only 2 years after beating Apollo and 1 year before his watershed cameo at the begining of Staying Alive, we decided to take a shot.
From the first scene, Sid said this guy's got it. Sly was undercover dressed in drag. He then ripped off his wig and ditched his purse to chase down a mugger. Spellbinding. Snaps Provolone plays a NYC cop in this one and his partner is the Colt 45 man himself, Billy D. Williams. We know what you're saying "Wasn't Billy D way washed up by '81?" Yes. Yes he was. But they teamed him up with Sly anyway to take down Wulfgar, a great villian terrorist who doubled as a real high-brow swinger. This guy was so evil that when he touched a baby on a train he was hijacking, it and 4 others started wailing. Leone and Billy D. spot Wulfgar in a hot discoteque and chase him. This is where the film took The Leap. Wulfgar ends up slicing Billy D's face. Sure it's no fun to have your face cut but chances are it's not life threatning. But that didn't stop Stallone from screaming "No!" louder than Richard Simmons like 15 times. And it also didn't stop them from squeezing in the equivilant of the "Win...win" scene between Adrian and Rocky in Rocky 2. Unintentional comedy at it's best. Of course at the end Sly kills Wulfgar. Big surprise.
For a fan of the B of Stallone's acting, this one is a must because he might be at his most B here. As we know the 80's were the time for goofy movies and this one couldn't have been goofier. This is aided by the fact that Lincoln Hawk work fantastic 80's could be men's could be ladies can I have one of those madam glasses and that the guy who played Gazzo in Rocky was in this one. Strange bonus Sid fact; Sly had a Bronson in Death Wish feel in this one. And one of the movies Stallone has in development: a remake of Death Wish of which he is the star/director. Sweet fancy Moses.
Nighthawks January 12, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) A New York police officer must track down a dangerous terrorist who has been wreaking havoc on the city. Stallone and Billy Dee Williams are a fantastic duo in this movie. It's very gritty and dark and has a building effect. A movie is relevant today and in fact even more relevant today than when it was released many years ago. Good action scenes and interesting story make this movie worth watching. This is a good movie made ahead of it's time.
Nighthawks. November 27, 2009 Jose Lopez (Miami,Florida USA) Nighthawks - I had the pleasure of viewing this film, Starring Sylvester Stallone,Billy Dee William in An Thriller/Cop Chases bad guy film. I think very Highly of the Film,it exposes how Terrorist degenerates think that they can force others to think like them and terrorize innocent people. nothing but cowards, and I think this movie is underrated, to me it's representative of the time and today when Leftist radical cowards thought and still think they could get away with anything. Highly recommend the film, See for yourself.
The red army faction/ Baader-Meinhof Group comes to New York? October 27, 2009 R. Bagula (Lakeside, Ca United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
In the 80's international terrorism was new and so was Sylvester Stallone.
You can't say the movie is very good, it is just a pioneer
of American cops fighting terrorism
on their home turf.
The mid-set taught by the British agent is that used by them pretty unsuccessfully
against the IRA, and here doesn't work
very well either.
The target here is the UN community in New York
and the financial community on Wall street.
The world trade buildings were a part of the international trade
community in New York, so it appears no one took the
movie very seriously?
Here two young undercover / decoy detectives are drafted against their will
into a terrorist unit.
The end results in the movie are good.
I like it July 28, 2009 Michael Kerjman (The Earth) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As I already had said, I LIKE IT!
It is really a classic of anti-terro movies produced ages ago, clever foresaw events of the present.
Nice actions, handsome actors, professional work.
Highly recommended!
