Amazon.com Anyone who's watched just about any teenage film knows that the greatest evil in this world isn't chemical warfare, ethnic cleansing, or even the nuclear bomb. The worst crime known to man? Why, virginity, of course. As we've learned from countless films--from Summer of '42 to Risky Business--virginity is a criminal burden that one must shed oneself of as quickly as possible. And while many of these films have given the topic a bad name, American Pie quietly sweeps in and gives sex some of its dignity back. Dignity, you may say? How can a film that highlights intercourse with fruit pies, premature ejaculation broadcasted across the Internet, and the gratuitous "gross-out" shots restore the dignity of a genre that's been encumbered with such heavyweights as Porky's and Losin' It? The plot may be typical, with four high school friends swearing to "score" by prom, yet the film rises above the muck with its superior cast, successful and sweet humor, and some actually rather retro values about the meaning and importance of sex. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Eddie Kaye Thomas make up the odd quartet of pals determined to woo, lie, and beg their way to manhood. The young women they pursue are wary girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid), choir girl Heather (Mena Suvari), band geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), and just about any other female who is willing and able. Natasha Lyonne as Jessica, playing a similar role as in Slums of Beverly Hills, is the general adviser to the crowd (when Vicky tells her "I want it to be the right time, the right place," Jessica responds, "It's not a space shuttle launch, it's sex"). The comedic timing hits the mark--especially in the deliberately awkward scenes between Jim (Biggs) and his father (Eugene Levy). And, of course, lessons are learned in this genuinely funny film, which will probably please the adult crowd even more than it will the teenage one. --Jenny Brown

A fun and funny movie May 29, 2009 Alice in Wonderland This is the story of Jim, Kevin, Finch and Oz, four teenagers who are determined to lose their virginity by prom-night. OK, they fail miserably, but what they lack in ability they make up for in pure determination! This movie definitely lies within the movie genre of "teenage sex farce," but it is definitely among the top 10 movies in that genre. Filled with a lot of goofiness and cringe-worthy farce, it romping good time. Now, as you might expect with the genre, the movie lacks depth of any sort, and will never pass as a work of cinematic art. But (and it's a big BUT), this really is a fun and funny movie, keeping you giggling and rolling your eyes right through. So, if you want a night of mindless humor, then pop this DVD into your player, get some soda and popcorn, and enjoy. (Review of American Pie)
The joy of growing up. Women, Parties, and Pie. March 18, 2009 M. B Cole (Las Vegas, NV) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jim, Oz, Kevin, and Finch. Four 18 year old virgins on a quest to break the curse. After having gone through another one of Stifler's parties without getting laid, they decide to make a pact. A pact that by Prom, they will all have gotten some tail. Within those 3 weeks though, nothing goes as planned. Jim (Jason Biggs) makes a fool of himself in front of his dream girl and actually all of his school, thanks to the Internet. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nichols) can't get past the `L' word so he can round third base with his girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid). Oz (Chris Klein) tries to hard with cheesy lines, and we he is himself, Stifler (Sean William Scott) and his rude ways screws it up for him even then. And then there is Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), who is a little too sophisticated for his high school peers and has to lie about himself to hopefully get laid. As everything is going wrong for them, and time is nearing an end, they begin to realize that sex isn't everything. Man I remember when this movie came out and how much I laughed at the theaters... hard. 10 years later American Pie still holds up, but honestly it feels a lot tamer now than it did. A lot of movies now have pushed the limit even farther than American Pie did such as how American Pie pushed it farther than say Porky's or Animal House. The movie is still very funny though so don't think I'm saying it's not. The scenes between Jim and his father are still uncomfortably embarrassing laughable just like the first time. Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) is still smokingly hot also...hehe. And Stifler is still crazy and is still one of my favorite characters in the movie. I just love how non-caring he is. In the end I would definitely own this movie. It definitely has its crude moments, but I still feel it's a littler tamer than the comedies that are like this that are out now. P.S. - What did you do to yourself Tara Reid? You used to be a goddess!
I love this movie February 21, 2009 Glen Gomez (Milpitas, CA USA) This Movie is the best for this series of movie, the last one has more rated scenes, but keep me fun all the time.
Meat pie or apple pie? December 25, 2008 Surferofromantica (Singapore) Sure, it's a dumb movie about guys who want to get laid, but it does invent several characters that you really do begin to care about, so how can you really fault it? The gags are really quite funny, and it's hard to imagine any other situation where a girl could convince her dad that "there was nothing going on" by screaming at the top of her lungs "I'M COMING!!!!" Another phrase that will never be the same for met again is "There was this one time at Band Camp..." The infamous American pie scene is, of course, quite disgusting, but if it had been shared with anyone other than Eugene Levy...
Well.......Teens Only! September 7, 2008 Dustin Emerson (Lancaster, KY) This film is really funny from a teens point of view. I dont know what you adults would think though,it does have some pretty silly and disturbing scenes....But otherwise,to me,this was a hilarious crude comedy, basically about 4 dudes that really wanna score, before graduation. It starts of with a funny scene, and the acting is very acceptable, but was blatant at times by some of the cast. The love relationships were fairly unrealistic, and biased. Now,its not as easy as it sounds, this has more crude that sex scenes....now,you either find it hilarious, laughable or totally stupid thats up to you to decide. The script was pretty well developed, and had some scenes, which left you crying for more. To me,the bad point was how the film developed towards the end,it slowly begins to go downhill from there, but luckily it ends before they actually ruin anything. Well....For the sex scenes themselves, were highly un-erotic,but not stupid, and the 4 dudes really do remind you of your friends! Is it worth the rent??Certainly?? But I recommend that if your, what?Over 25 NOT to watch it unless your really hip and cool cause you WILL understand it,but find it disgusting, and laugh is disgust basically... Is it a film you can watch over and over again? CERTAINLY.....This film is very addictive, and no matter how many times you've seen it,you want to invite your friends over and watch it again.! Rating of 10? Well,it might just not be a blockbuster..! But it definitey IS a great film that im extremely certain you'd enjoy!
