    Product Description
Jim Carrey delivers an outrageous performance in this "fall-down, flat-out, irresistibly deranged movie" (Rolling Stone). Rhode Island state trooper Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey) proves that nice guys finish first after marrying the prettiest gal in the state

    Amazon.com
In Me, Myself & Irene, Jim Carrey plays Charlie Baileygates, a cop for the best police force in the world (Rhode Island). In denial about his wife's affair, he's a nice guy who goes around trying to do the right thing but is taken advantage of every step of the way. Instead of confronting people, he takes the abuse, balls it up, and hides it in the pit of his stomach. His psyche can only take so much, though, and soon his alter-ego Hank pops out to do every libidinous thing Charlie would never do. It's a great premise for a Jim Carrey film. Unfortunately, it's not a great Jim Carrey film. Famous for the lowbrow, shock comedies like Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and There's Something About Mary, here the Farrelly brothers get lost in a series of lazy gags and an even lazier plot about some evil golf development and the woman, Irene (Renée Zellweger), who needs to be protected because she knows something about it. Some of the jokes hit (there's a bathroom scene that's 10 times funnier than the hair-gel gag in There's Something About Mary), but many more miss. There are some great concepts (his three sons are hip-hop geniuses) that don't go anywhere (they swear a lot). It's like the movie itself has a split personality--funny ideas trapped in a less-than-funny film. --Andy Spletzer

Betweem Jim Carrey and Robin Williams, I don't know who can make me laugh harder. These two are national treasures. They bring so much to the ball game. I love everything Jim Carrey does.

I cry when I think of how funny this movie SHOULD have been. Well, I don't really cry, but you get the idea. There is so much potential here, and even some of the jokes start off verging on hilarious and then get beaten so far to death that you can't muster enough energy to utter a mere chuckle. I mean, this is Jim Carrey we're talking about here. The world knows that this guy is funny.

    This SHOULD have been gold!

The films premise is rather simple. A `nice guy' named Charlie, who also happens to be a cop, gets walked all over by everybody, including his two-timing wife. When he's finally taken all that he can handle, Hank, his alter-ego bares his crude little head and starts wrecking havoc, reacting to those who take advantage so that Charlie can gain an ounce of respect. That really is the only part of the plot that matters, since the ridiculous `witness protection' aspect of the plot is rather forgettable.

There are some gags here that really work (the cow scene still brings me to near-pee fits of laughter), some that entertain a chuckle (the nose whistle comes very close to getting a full on barrel from me) and then a slew that just seem to be rather, well, bare (what is it with films that consider vulgar language a joke in itself?).

Jim Carrey handles the material the best he can, and his tonal shifts and deadpan delivery tinged with sarcasm is quite effective when the material matches his delivery (the "taco" speech in the grocery store was quite funny) but all too often the material isn't a match and Carrey comes across rather desperate, like he's reaching to find some kernels of funny in this very un-funny script.

And don't even get me started on the wasted opportunity that was the three ghetto genius sons...I mean, that should have been a home run and wound up being a major foul!

In the end I have to give this one a D+. Like I said, it has a few scattered moments (the bathroom scene, with the wild pee, is almost as hilarious as the battered bow scene) but those moments are not enough to hold this lazy, haphazard, wasted effort together.

This should have been SOOOOO much better!

We could not watch more than 10 minutes, and we are sorry we wasted that much time.
    Awkward, stupid, senseless...

5 out of 5 stars pure entertainment   January 3, 2010

Jim Carrey has always been known as one of the finest and funniest comedians of our generation.

He continues to deliver with the constant laughs with Me, Myself & Irene.

The storyline is that he has a split personality, which means throughout the film he turns into a completely different person, and this is where most of the laughs come from.

His three naughty sons with some VERY bad language are also the highlight of the movie. They constantly say bad words, and are absolutely hilarious.

I have no idea how I somehow missed this funny movie when it was first released, but watching it last night, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality, storytelling, the frequent laughs, and Jim Carrey's ability to continue entertaining me.

Carrey's split personality also means lots of hilarious insults being thrown towards innocent people, haha.

The chicken in the rear-end part was the funniest part of the entire movie, along with the part where Carrey couldn't use the bathroom properly because of... something he did the previous night, haha.

I also like the beginning part where he gets revenge against this little girl playing jump rope on the street, and revenge against his neighbor who keeps stealing his morning paper in the yard, haha.

Real quality and real laughs make up Me, Myself & Irene.
