Amazon.com William Steig's delightfully fractured fairy tale is the right stuff for this computer-animated adaptation full of verve and wit. Our title character (voiced by Mike Myers) is an agreeable enough ogre who wants to live his days in peace. When the diminutive Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) evicts local fairy-tale creatures (including the now-famous Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and the Gingerbread Man), they settle in the ogre's swamp and Shrek wants answers from Farquaad. A quest of sorts starts for Shrek and his new pal, a talking donkey (Eddie Murphy), where battles have to be won and a princess (Cameron Diaz) must be rescued from a dragon lair in a thrilling action sequence. The story is stronger than most animated fare, but it's the humor that makes Shrek a winner. The PG rating is stretched when Murphy and Myers hit their strides. The mild potty humor is fun enough for 10-year-olds but will never embarrass their parents. Shrek is never as warm and inspired as the Toy Story films, but the realistic computer animation and a rollicking soundtrack keep the entertainment in fine form. Produced by DreamWorks, the film also takes several delicious stabs at its crosstown rival, Disney. --Doug Thomas

Shrek February 2, 2010 Lynett Butler (Clanton, AL 35045) Great movie for visiting grandchildren. I will buy from this seller again. The movie was exactly as advertised and I received it a few days after placing my order.
Shrek ROcks! January 31, 2010 Heather Gonyo (Portland, TN USA) Ordered this movie to replace the crappy VHS copy I have. The kids loved it! (So did mama!)
good movie December 31, 2009 Ginger Hester (Cleveland, TX, US) Our family ages from 2 to 50, and all love this movie. Its great for kids and adults alike. I recommend it to anyone.
True Widescreen or Not? December 24, 2009 R. Morrone (USA) In viewing Disk 2 of the Two-Disc Special Edition DVD of Shrek Shrek (Two-Disc Special Edition), I noticed that this widescreen version looked somewhat cropped. I compared it to the full screen version and found that, indeed, the top and bottom areas of the full screen version are missing in the widescreen version.
While I absolutely love the original Shrek, my great joy in viewing the widescreen version of any movie is seeing all of the image that was originally shot. Somehow that did not occur in the transfer to DVD in this "widescreen" version.
This Two-Disc Special Edition is out of print, but it is currently the ONLY way to obtain any widescreen DVD of the first Shrek movie. It is my hope that IF they ever re-release the DVD in widescreen it will show the entire image area that was shot.
Shrek December 20, 2009 T. Humphrey (Elizabeth, NJ) My whole family loves this movie. The kids watched it so much that they ruined the first one. That's why I purchased this one. Doesn't matter it its your first time or your hundreth; this movie is fun for the wholke family.
