Amazon.com essential video It's hard to know who thought it would be a good idea to make a live-action version of Disney's animated classic. The one bright notion anyone had was casting Glenn Close as Disney ueber-villainess Cruella de Vil; her flashing eyes and angular features are a perfect match and do credit to what is one of the most indelible animated characters Disney has ever created. The story remains essentially the same, focusing on Cruella's plot to kidnap the puppies of a young married couple (Jeff Daniels and Jolie Richardson) and make them into a coat. But the dreaded John Hughes, who wrote this script, fills it with sadistic slapstick and far too few genuine laughs. The human actors work hard, but to little avail; thankfully, there's a passel of puppies to regularly steal scenes when the going gets dreary--although there are only so many laughs to be had from inappropriate dog puddles. --Marshall Fine

101 Dalmations April 14, 2009 Kathy (Tappahannock, VA) My granddaughter loves this movie. She is 2 and loves the real puppies, the farm animals and she knows all the characters. We watch the movie every time she comes; sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. It has surpassed my expectations since I wasn't sure she would like it the way she does.
Excellent Adaptation March 23, 2009 butterflywebgraphics.com (St. Joseph, MO United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Disney did an excellent job adapting this story from the 1961 version. It's true to the original, and yet adds a few new flavors. The acting was good, and Glen Close did an excellent job playing Cruella. But the very best thing about this film, other than the adorable canines, are the values it teaches children. Not only does it encourage kindness to animals, but it also reveals the ugliness of killing animals for their coats. I hope that all who view this film will think twice before they don another fur. In short, I highly recommend this film for family viewing.
101 Dalmatians February 17, 2009 Sue H. Sowden (Oakhurst, CA) I received the right cover and the wrong dvd -- it was a song dvd of an old-time crooner whose name I can't remember. I didn't send it back because it would have cost more than the film. Now I don't trust whoever it was to send me the right one. Is it too much to ask that sellers double check the contents of the jackets? This has happened to me more than once. Sue Sowden

Great family fun! January 6, 2009 Busy Mom (Southeastern, NC) This movie is great family fun. The "real" people put a new spin on the Disney classic. My children loved the original and now claim, "this one is even better". Glenn Close is over the top as Cruella!
