Amazon.com "They could f**k the human race out of existence!" warns Michael Madsen in this inevitable--and inevitably contrived--sequel to 1995's surprise sci-fi hit. He's referring to a celebrated astronaut (Justin Lazard) infected with alien DNA from his history-making Mars landing, and the half-alien Eve (Natasha Henstridge), who was created from alien-human embryo splicing by biochemist Dr. Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) in an effort to discover the alien species's vulnerabilities on Earth. While the astronaut sows his gruesomely wild oats with doomed women (resulting in a bevy of creepy kids in alien cocoons), Eve goes into heat until she and the astronaut can consummate their procreative lust. Sex and death are served up like money-shots in a porno flick, with an emphasis on gory flesh-regeneration, explosive pregnancies, and slimy-tentacled intercourse. All of which makes this is the kind of derivative schlock that only a true fan could love, but it's boosted to a tolerable level of entertainment by the returning cast (Madsen, Henstridge, and Helgenberger) from the previous film. --Jeff Shannon

Species II January 8, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) After being infected during by an alien during a mission to Mars, an astronaut returns to Earth and seeks out his mate--the beautiful but deadly Sil. Astronaut Ross discovers that each time he has sex, the woman is impregated with an alien that kills her in childbirth. Sil wants to mate with Ross to produce a more perfect alien offspring, and the assassin hired to dispatch the aliens hopes that she will lead him to Ross and his violent offspring. I loved everything about this sequel. Once again the script, the acting, the directing and the visual effects are great. This movie never gets boring, it's filled with interesting characters and aliens in a fast, exciting and adventurous story. Watch it.
aliens and stuff August 23, 2009 B. E Jackson (Pennsylvania) I've seen worse movies, but I've *certainly* seen better. Definitely better alien movies out there as far as gore and entertainment is concerned, no doubt about that.
Species II is pretty average.
The storyline is about an astronaut that goes to Mars, returns home with alien eggs in his sperm, and he has to be extremely careful not to mate with any females or... I won't spoil it. Let's just say something very graphic, bloody, and explosive happens if those alien eggs reach female body parts, hehe.
Some of the acting was truly terrible, giving me the feeling the actors either didn't care about trying to make their part seem believable, or the storyline fetched to them was so ridiculous in the first place that there wasn't any point in even trying to make something good out of this.
There were a few moments I enjoyed, such as the mating process, hehe. Again, something graphic happens afterwards that I don't wanna spoil for all you people out there reading this review. It's awesome though!
The ending to a popular video game called Resident Evil 2 has something similar to the ending to this movie, and I wonder if either one may have been influenced by the other since both the video game and Species II came out around the same time. Or maybe the ending to Resident Evil 2 is just generic gore and predictable like ALL scary movies out there, and there's no coincidence at all.
Anyway, let's continue with the movie review.
Some of the slow motion effects of Species II were pretty silly, such as when that one woman jumped out of the glass and started going around pressing buttons. It happened in slow motion and looked terrible. The part where she gets shot to death only to stand back up a moment later and continue running away towards a vehicle was even worse. Could have been scary had some, you know, SUSPENSE been given consideration to this (and many other) scenes.
Overall, not horrible, had some freaky moments, and not the worst movie you can spend an hour and a half watching.
Here Come A Sequel Of Equal Potential June 30, 2009 D. Meeker (USA) Species 2 is the second installment in the infamous Species series. I noticed that there are mixed reviews for this movie, but most people voted a one. I can understand that. The movie didn't have much of a plot. Just an alien infected astronaut whose wants to have sex with an super ugly woman every five minutes. But that stills doesn't mean the movie wasn't fun. Michael Madsen's lines were classic. "The could [...] the human race into extinction." I Love that line for some reason. Species 2 may be worse than the first (by far) but it is still and enjoyable sci-fi alien flick.
Species 2 March 3, 2009 T. B. Thorson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I thought I'd try my hand at writing a review because I enjoy reading other people's reviews of movies. I get a good laugh out of when someone expects a movie to have some deep spiritual or social meaning when all the producers were trying to do with the film was make money. From a historical point of view (my assumptions anyway), this movie was made as a follow-up to the movie Species. Species (One) was a movie about a little girl who grows up really quickly, likes to run around naked, make love, have alien babies, and kill anyone who wants to do harm to her little brat. Species One was simple, mindless viewing pleasure with titillating scenes, bloody violence, and a not too deep Sci-Fi plot.
Species 2 is more of same. Well, OK, the plot goes off in other directions, tangents, and planets up front, but our dedicated aliens still desire to make babies and keep women naked. Unfortunately for the women in the movie, they end up dead and bloody from maternity/labor complications. There are more pieces and parts to the show, but volumes of blood, violence, and nudity were the highlights most noted by this reviewer.
By the end of the movie we know there will be another sequel or two, and if we want to continue our mindless marathon of pretty girls and gore, well than, everything's right in the sexploitation universe and the movie delivered all it ever wanted to do: Make Money --. but I mentioned that already, didn't I?....
You'd be right to think it doesn't take much to entertain me. After a long day of working, a delicious dinner prepared by my wife, and pleasant conversations as we prepare for the rest of the evening, this movie, to me, was far better faire than some sit-com or reality show I would have been stuck watching otherwise. It was somewhat entertaining for me, and my wife did look up a few times to smirk and make a droll comment while she continued reading one of her mystery novels. Which I would have been reading, BTW, had she been finished with it......
Call me strange, but I now have the entire series of Species DVD movies! I plan on watching them all -- in progressive order -- the next time I am home with the flu or a cold. I believe they will work nicely to get my mind off my malady as I find they have just the right measure of vapid plot, cathartic violence, and premeditated nudity.
How paradoxical, I think I'm looking forward to being sick!
I didn't think the original movie "Species" was all that great September 8, 2008 kittykins (boston, ma) that they had to make a sequel. But those big Hollywood mansions take a lot of upkeep I guess. This is worse than the original, and the original wasen't all that good. Natasha is ok, not really all that, but she was naked in a few scenes so I guess the guy's liked that. Might be a good movie if a ballgame gets cancelled because of rain. Enjoy!
