Amazon.com Ethan Hawke, fresh faced and full of determination, tackles the icy wilds and rowdy boom towns of Alaska in Disney's 1991 adaptation of Jack London's turn-of-the-century gold rush classic. Though somewhat tamed for young audiences, the story of a city kid who befriends a feral half-wolf/half-dog orphan while learning to survive the dangers of nature and man has its share of peril and rousing scenes of wilderness adventure. But the humans are upstaged by both the animals (the standoff between White Fang and a wild brown bear is a highlight) and the Alaskan landscape, from the snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes of winter to the rich green forests and whitecap rivers of summer. The scenes of dogfights and wild wolves hunting game are carefully shot to avoid bloodshed (the opening disclaimer takes pains to remind viewers that all such scenes have been simulated), but they may still be too intense for young children. Recommended for 9 and up. --Sean Axmaker

A great Story! March 5, 2010 Petra (Florida, United States) This movie is a "must see". It is a story about friendship, compassion and love for animals.
White Fang January 23, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) Jack Conroy is a young gold hunter, who seeks for gold in the enormous and the snowy deserts of Alaska. He save one day, a mixed dogwolf from the hands of a cruel man, and a brave friendship develops between the two. The dogwolf, who named "the white fang" for it's sharp and white tooth, was left alone after his mother was killed by a hunter. After a while, the white fang was taken from jack, by a man who putted him in an illegal dog fighting pen, to fight other dogs. White Fang becomes a professional, experienced and a cruel killer. But unexpectedly, jack meets him again after a long term, and they return to be friends. When a group of criminals wants to steal Jack's gold, White Fang is the only one who can help him to fight them off. Wonderful story for kids and grownups of all ages with some of the most scenic and beautiful photography, around the towns of Halnes & Skagway Alaska, ever put on film. I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy this movie.
Great film, all versions need to be released November 28, 2009 Scott Blais (Mpls, MN) Great film! However remaining in obscurity is the 1936 White Fang which is full of atmosphere and intensity. Vote at TCM for this movie to be released, just google White Fang TCM vote and you will get the link. All versions of this film are touching and I think those that love the story should have this 1936 version as well to see yet another take!
WHITE FANG IS A CLASSIC September 4, 2009 Evelyn B. Oldham (Lookout Mtn., TN) JACK LONDON NEVER FAILS. MY EIGHT YEAR OLD GRANDSON GETS MORE CAUGHT UP IN THIS STORY THAN IN THE USUAL ELECTRONIC DIVERSIONS. HE LOVES ALL THE WHITE FANG STORIES.
Rock-Solid Alaskan Adventure Tale June 26, 2009 Craig Connell (Lockport, NY USA)
Prior to seeing this, I remember reading a lot of good reviews on it. Well, the critics were right about this one: it was good. It's an excellent adventure film that really gets you involved with the story.
The story, off the famous book written by Jack London, involves a young adult male's adventures during the gold rush days of Alaska at the end of the 19th century.
Some of the Alaskan scenery in here is just magnificent. Here's a movie I would love to see with a sharp Blu-Ray transfer. I have talked to a couple of people who have been around the world and they both said Alaska had the most incredible scenery of any place they'd been, and you see evidence of that in this movie.
They did a nice job with the action scenes in here: not too much, not too little and pretty realistic. The dog-fighting scenes aren't pleasant, but they aren't bloody, either. The villains, led by James Remar, are nasty but not profane.
This is not a typical Disney film, at least at the time of its release, because the violence is intense at times and there is some profanity. It's a rugged story about rugged people in a rugged land. These adventurers had to be rough to survive.
Ethan Hawke plays the young man-hero whom we all root for, and the way he builds a relationship to wolf-dog "White Fang" is touching to view. The movie offers everything but humor but they do throw one funny line in at the end, by one of the villains, no less!
