Amazon.com Pierce Brosnan assumed the role of James Bond for the first time in this 17th entry in the series. Brosnan looks a little light on the big screen under any circumstances, and he does take some getting used to as 007. But this busy film keeps him hopping as freelance terrorists from the former Soviet Union get their hands on super-high-tech weapons. The film's challenge is to bring free-spirited Bond up to date in the age of AIDS and in the aftermath of the cold war, and on both counts director Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro) succeeds with a cheeky hint of irony. The best moment in the film is a chase scene that finds Bond tearing up the streets of Moscow in a tank. But Brosnan's most interesting contributions are reminiscent of the dark streak that occasionally showed up in Sean Connery's Bond. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, optional French and Spanish soundtracks, theatrical trailer, Dolby sound. --Tom Keogh

007 dvd "golden eye" March 3, 2010 Alfredo E. Jones I am very pleased with the purchase of this dvd. It took only a few days for delivery and the movie of course is as always excellent. I am a fan of 007 and if there are anymore of these 007 dvd's available at this seller I will purchase them. I recommend this seller to all that need a dvd in a timely manner.
One of the best Bond films September 24, 2009 Ross Braulio (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This one had it all, a top-notch Bond, great locations, sets, action, and best of all, one of the best Bond women, Izabella Scorupco. Wow, what a beauty, what an attractive character, makes me proud to be Polish (Izabella's Polish too)! That's two straight movies I've seen with knockout Polish female leads, check out Dagmara (last name escapes me) in The Count of Monte Cristo. I've always thought Polish women are some of the most beautiful and sexy. What's cool, I didn't know anything about either of them till after I'd seen the movies. It's always nice when your notions are validated that way.
The First (and Best) of Brosnan's Bond Outings July 14, 2009 Scott Rivers (Los Angeles, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Propelled by Martin Campbell's vigorous direction and Pierce Brosnan's stylish debut as 007, "GoldenEye" (1995) is solid Bond all the way. Terrific action scenes, memorable villains and Judi Dench's revitalized M are among the film's trump cards. Tina Turner's classic title song outshines a lackluster score by Eric Serra. It's a shame that Brosnan's remaining 007 installments failed to match the high standards of his first adventure.
james bond July 1, 2009 cool goldeneye, the best bond thriller of the bond movies to grace the movie screen. lots of action love, and suspence,if you are a james bond fan, then you will love this movie.you can never get enough action buy this movie, that is my recommendation.
fun April 21, 2009 Furio (Genova - Italy) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Bond movie has just one basic flaw but utterly irritating: why should non Anglo-Saxon characters (here most are Russian) speak English among themselvels when no Anglo-Saxon is present and with an awful accent at that?
This is silly and irritating. Either you let them speak their language with subtitles or, if you think viewers will be annoyed by having to read, you let them speak plain English: otherwise one must think that non-natives alway speak in a language foreign to them just for the heck of producing guttural sounds.
As for the rest it is one of the best bond movies I can recall: action packed, well scripted (not always a given with Bond movies), well acted (Brosnan is good) and interesting in its assumptions.
Children are best kept out of it unless it is with a parent ready to do a lot of explaining.
