Amazon.com essential video When it was announced that Tom Cruise would play the vampire Lestat in this adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel, even Rice chimed in with a highly publicized objection. The author wisely and justifiably recanted her negative opinion when she saw Cruise's excellent performance, which perceptively addresses the pain and chronic melancholy that plagues anyone cursed with immortal bloodlust. Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst are equally good at maintaining the dark and brooding tone of Rice's novel. And in this rare mainstream project for a major studio, director Neil Jordan compensates for a lumbering plot by honoring the literate, Romantic qualities of Rice's screenplay. Considered a disappointment while being embraced by Rice's loyal followers, the movie is too slow to be a satisfying thriller, but it is definitely one of the most lavish, intelligent horror films ever made. --Jeff Shannon

It's good, but not as good as the book. February 7, 2010 Charles Hook (Greensboro, NC) This was a gift for another Ann Rice Fan. When I saw the movie, it was well done. The acting was a little over the top, but that's normal for horror flicks. The book was much better. If you order the DVD, be sure and order the book, too.
I just love this movie January 27, 2010 Ana Jessica Matos Cruz This movie is one of my long time favorites, so I decided to buy it on DVD for my little but growing vampire movies collection. A must have for every vampire film lover, like me!
Interview With the Vampire--On Blu-Ray January 16, 2010 Alanna P. Ruvalcaba (San Diego, CA USA) Bravo to all of the reviewers who took on the film in depth regarding characters and development in detail. The plot itself is pretty much as described on the back of the box--200 year old vampire telling his life story to a reporter he meets in a back alley, from the beginning (which is not quite how the book does it, but I digress) in which he describes the circumstances of his mortal life briefly, his transformation into a vampire by Lestat (Tom Cruise), and his internal struggles with what he has become. That is the overall gist of the story.
In any case, to review the Blu Ray: I own the Dvd version of this, and bought the blu-ray to further my attempts at converting over my movie collection. The Blu-Ray is a bit sharper than the dvd, as to be expected, but I was not dazzled. I saw no immediate difference, but was satisfied with what difference there was, as this is an older movie. However: if you're looking for special features: don't. Because this blu-ray does not really have them. There are commentaries from the actors, Anne Rice, etc, but I'm positive those are on the old Dvd as well. Nothing new here! It's kind of disappointing, because I buy Blu-Rays because I want to re-experience certain movies, and with no new content, there are no new angles to look at. In that sense, I'm disappointed.
Interview with the Vampire December 31, 2009 Arnita D. Brown (USA) It hadn't even been a year since a plantation owner named Louis had lost his wife in childbirth. Both his wife and the infant died, and now he has lost his will to live. A vampire named Lestat takes a liking to Louis and offers him the chance to become a creature of the night: a vampire. Louis accepts, and Lestat drains Louis' mortal blood and then replaces it with his own, turning Louis into a vampire. Louis must learn from Lestat the ways of the vampire. I thought this movie was wonderful. The costumes and the actors were impecable. Even though there is gore and blood, this movie is highly entertaining and I would highly recommend it.

I have this movie on vhs, but wanted it on dvd, we are in the "twilight faze", and I wanted to share this movie with my daughter. This movie had the HOTTEST VAMPIRES!!! I also ordered the Twilight Saga for my daughter (all 4 books) for amazon at the same time. Amazon is the best place to order on-line. The service is quick and I've never have a problem in the years I have been ordering from them. A must have movie for you vampire collection.
