Amazon.com Navy SEALs are a top antiterrorist unit that goes anywhere (SEa, Air, or Land) to fight for and protect the American Way of Life. When a SEAL team rescues American hostages in the Middle East, they discover the terrorists have a warehouse of deadly Stinger missles. Rather than risking his entire team, Lt. Curran (Michael Biehn) orders his men to leave without destroying the Stingers. But when civilian aircraft start getting shot down--and when one of Curran's men is killed by terrorists--the SEALs make it their personal business to track down and destroy the deadly missles--and the fanatics who want to use them. Made in the Top Gun mold, Navy SEALS features stock characters (including Charlie Sheen's loose cannon) and at times seems like a recruiting film for the SEAL program. But the action sequences are well done (especially the final battle in war-torn Beirut) and the special effects and cinematography are first-rate. There's also a certain gung-ho, testosterone-driven, adrenaline-junky sensibility that seems appropriate to the sort of impossible missions SEALs are asked to do. It's a good time, as long as you don't take it too seriously. --Geof Miller

Top Gun With Flippers February 17, 2009 tlc (usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Good set dressing, locations and effects, but if you think you've seen this movie before, you have. It was called Top Gun. Lots of explosions and characters running here and there, but little else. I gave it two stars instead of just one since the camera did stay in focus throughout.
Navy Seals January 20, 2008 Linda Adkins-scolaro (Nashville, TN) Thank-you Amazon for getting this DVD to me by Christmas! My husband loves this movie and I'll admit I enjoyed it, too. It was on cable TV, where he watched it several times and then he created a fussed when they took it off...it was then... I knew it was a great gift idea for him. Charlie Sheen plays one of the elite Navy Seals sent on missions that were believable and so exciting (not his usual, silly comic role, but very serious). And his commander, Michael Biehn was right up there with Robert Redford appeal. Now, I even adore the Allstate spokesperson, who was also a Seal...trying to marry the girl he loved, but duty called. The characters were amazing, yet showed their vunerabilities and were easy to become fond of, as you learned a little about each of their lives and how demanding and devoted a Seal's life must be. Sure, it's a guy movie but trust me, there's enough attraction to keep a girl entertained.

Truly incredible performances by Charlie Sheen and Rick Rossovich. Rossovich delights the audience with his sleek and slealth role!
A favorite of mine ! July 19, 2006 Joao Estibeira (Lisbon) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well some people posted that this is a ridiculous movie because it doesn't show the real side of US Armed Forces, i fully disagree with them, this is an action movie, it is intended to entertain the viwers, in my opinion does that and more! When i saw this movie for the first time i didn't even know anything about the Navy Seals. After watching this movie i considered the Navy Seals the n 1 Special Force arround the world. For about 120min you will see some awsome action, and you will see a bit of each aspects of a Navy Seal (Sea / Air / Land). Conclusion: If you want an exact documentary about the Navy Seals, try and grab a National Geographic DVD, maby you will find something there of value...Otherwise if you want a very very good entertaining action movie this is it ! DVD downsides: It could have a little bit more of extras... No extras at all! If it wasn't for that i would give it a full 5 star score!
Absurd in the light of reality June 5, 2006 L. Allen (Memphis, TN USA) 3 out of 13 found this review helpful
Sixteen years after this was made, it is sort of amusing to see what "someone in Hollywood" thought would be a great morale booster in terms of displaying our military capabilities. Now that we know the reality of the situation of dealing with terrorists abroad, the flimsy premises of this tawdry little film seem even more ridiculous. But - at its core - it was an idiotic film then, and an even more idiotic film now.
