Amazon.com A box-office hit when released in 1994, this sprawling, frequently overwrought familial melodrama may get sillier as its plot progresses, but it's the kind of lusty, character-based epic that Hollywood should attempt more often. It's also an unabashedly flattering star vehicle for Brad Pitt as Tristan--the rebellious middle son of a fiercely independent Montana rancher and military veteran (Anthony Hopkins)--who is routinely at odds with his more responsible older brother, Alfred (Aidan Quinn), and younger brother, Samuel (Henry Thomas). From the battlefields of World War I to his adventures as an oceangoing sailor, Tristan's life is full of personal torment, especially when he returns to Montana and finds himself competing with Alfred over Samuel's beautiful widow (Julia Ormond), whose passion for Tristan disrupts the already turbulent Ludlow clan. Under the wide-open canopy of Big Sky country, this operatic tale unfolds with all the bloodlust, tragedy, and scenery-chewing performances you'd expect to find in a hokey bestselling novel (in fact, it's based on the acclaimed novella by Jim Harrison), but it's a potent mix that's highly entertaining. Not surprisingly, John Toll won an Academy Award for his breathtaking outdoor cinematography. --Jeff Shannon

Legends of the Fall April 28, 2009 Sheri Rose (CA USA) I received Legends of the Fall and have really enjoyed the movie. The sender did so in good time and the product was in perfect shape. It is one of those movies you want to watch again and again.
COL. LUDLOW TRIED TO PROTECT HIS SONS FROM THE MADNESS, BUT YET THEY GO TO SEEK IT. April 18, 2009 Teresa (NORTH CAROLINA, USA) When I saw this western movie, years ago, I just loved it! I highly recommend it! This movie has a all-star cast of outstanding actors, everyone in this movie, did a outstanding awesome job! It is about a military veteran (Co.Ludlow), and his three sons, who went to live in the beautiful country, and mountains of Montana with his wife, and Ludlow's best friend, a Indian chief named Stab, to escape the madness of war, and dishonest government! Ludlow and his three sons, Alfred, and Tristen, and Samuel, and also Stab, and Decker ( a friend and ranch hand), and his family, all lived a content, simple, peaceful life, on the ranch, during Ludlow's sons growing up years, except when Isabel (Ludlow's wife) decides to live in the city, and when Tristen decides to get into trouble hunting bears! But the big changes ,for this close knit family happens, when all the Ludlow sons grow up and become men, and become soldiers of WWI, and when Samuel becomes engaged to a very beautiful woman, named Suzanna! I also, so loved the Col. Ludlow's beautiful home, and his breathtaking land, and mountains! And I loved the beautiful horses! During, and after the war, everything changed forever, for the Ludlow family! The war caused changes for them in so many ways! Heartbreaking loss, and sorrow, jealousy, and love, passion and greed, and murder, and death, and madness, and revenge! But their strong love of family, and the closeness that only brothers and a close family ,could have for each other, that closeness and love never ends! This is a very outstanding movie, except for a few 'GD' words, and the blaming God part! But I loved the breathtaking, beautiful place where the movie was filmed, it was awesome, and of course Tristen with his handsome self, was my favorite cowboy!
Good Classic Movie March 24, 2009 E. Venable (Texarkana, Texas) This is not your traditional western movie. Based on turn of the century where past and present collide a good must have
Legends of the Fall January 29, 2009 Alice McMurtrey (Ansley, NE USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wonderful saga of a family of men growing up in Montana post civil war. Brad Pitt is unbelievably hot in this movie. Anthony Hopkins is execellent as the patriarch of this movie. Beautiful scenery. Action, adventure and romance. A romance that tears this family apart but in the end they are still protective of eachother.
