Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt dance their way through Girls Just Want to Have Fun, a glorious example of 1980s kitsch. Janey (Parker), the new girl at a Catholic high school in Chicago, dreams of becoming a dancer on Dance TV. With the help of new wave hipster Lynne (Hunt), Janey enters a dance contest and gets paired with Jeff (Lee Montgomery), a rebel in spandex, and the two are soon smitten with each other. Unfortunately, they've made an enemy of a snooty rich girl, who vows to take them down. Everything about Girls Just Want to Have Fun is cheap and cheesy--it doesn't even have the Cyndi Lauper version of the title song--but that doesn't make it any less goofily entertaining, particularly when a debutante ball is wrecked by a bizarre combination of punk rockers and female bodybuilders.  Sexy, fun and Lovely! July 24, 2008
I've been looking for this movie for a long time! I never thought that an oldie like this one will ever be released on DVD! Since the first time I saw it I fell in love with it, I love the dancing, 80's music and it is a nice story! If you like everything related to the eighties this movie is for you! Fun, sexy, just lovely!

I loved watching this with my daughters just as much as I did as a teen. I still remembered most of the words. Its like taking a step back into the 80's. You cant help but love Helen Hunt & Sarah Jess Parker in this movie.

This is definately a chick movie. If you are young or young at heart this is a great movie to watch. If you like to dance or watch dance this is for you.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun is annoying in places but overall this dance film is quite engaging. The dance numbers are incredible for its time period and Sarah Jessica Parker is a fantastic actress even in this drab film. Helen Hunt also stars and it's kinda funny that she once dated Matthew Broderick and Parker is now married to him. Look for a young Shannen Doherty in her pre-brat days. Parker makes this film fresh and fun, just watch it if you are a fan of her work.
