Product Description This hilarious, must-see comedy smash places Carmen Electra (TV's BATTLEBOTS), Marlon Wayans (SENSELESS), Jon Abrahams (BOILER ROOM, THE FACULTY), and some of today's hottest young stars in a wickedly funny send-up of today's most popular horror movies! A familiar-looking group of teenagers find themselves being stalked by a more-than-vaguely recognizable masked killer! As the victims begin to pile up and the laughs pile on, none of your favorite scary movies escape the razor-sharp satire of this outrageously funny parody! With Shannon Elizabeth, Shawn Wayans, and Cheri Oteri adding sidesplitting performances, there's nothing to fear in this scary movie ... unless you're afraid of laughing too much.
Amazon.com If you've seen Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, then you know the entire plot of Scary Movie. That's okay, though, because this is a parody, and it helps to know the story in order to be able to get the jokes. No, the biggest surprise here is not the story as much as the amount of full-frontal male nudity. Really, in addition to all the dick jokes (and the ass jokes and fart jokes), there's a couple of shots of the male member, one of which is erect and used as a weapon. Scary Movie somehow ended up with an R rating, which in a sense is groundbreaking; perhaps our ratings board is loosening up after all. But is it funny? That's the most important question, and the answer to that is yes. In the vein of Airplane!, with a dash of the Farrelly brothers, Scary Movie keeps throwing jokes at you one after another. The law of averages says some of them have to hit, and enough of them do to keep the movie entertaining. Unlike the makers of Airplane!, however, the Wayans brothers aren't making this movie out of a love of the genre, and unlike the Farrelly brothers, they don't make fun of retarded people with any sort of respect, so the humor throughout feels a lot uglier. Still, there are enough funny scenes in Scary Movie to make the viewing experience worthwhile. Special credit must go to Lochlyn Munro as Greg, the over-the-top jock, who steals the movie up until the time he's gotta die.--Andy Spletzer

HAHAHAHA(gasp)HAHAHAHA(eww)HAHAHAHA March 2, 2010 Andrew Ellington (Mulholland Drive) Certainly the best in the series, this slasher film spoof is equal parts funny and scary (and gross). With sequences that will elicit fully on barrel laughs, and maybe even some tears, as well as sequences that will turn the stomach, `Scary Movie' has enough going for it to far outweigh the films tendency to overindulge in it's own silliness.
Yes, this movie is stupid, but it balances it's intelligence with a precise humor that was kind of lost in the sequels (especially the 3rd film).
The film is an amalgam of all things `slasher', a genre that really rose to fame in the late 90's. With throwbacks to everything from `Scream' to `I Know What You Did Last Summer', as well as a brilliant spoof in `The Blair Witch Project'; `Scary Movie' certainly makes the best use of the goods at its disposal. Sometimes the film does tend to veer off into territory that is far too silly for its own good, but it manages to maintain a firm hold on just what is `funny', making up for its preposterousness the best way that it can.
One thing to know is that this film is ridiculously offensive (as is the 2nd one) and so the jokes, while funny, are not going to make everyone happy, so if you have an adverse reaction to stereotypical jokes done in a grossly demeaning (and perverse) way then stay far away from this one.
As far as the acting is concerned, this young cast is chuck full of talented comedians. Even Carmen Electra surprisingly makes her `Drew Barrymore' impersonation as memorable (well, not quite AS memorable) as Drew herself. Thankfully, they chose a real star to carry this film. Anna Farris is hysterical, and this is the film that MADE her. She carries all of these films (even though the films themselves become rather insulting) and her comedic timing is just impeccable. It's easy to see, when watching this film, why she became so big and why she'll stick around for some time. The Waynes brothers do what they do (Marlon is BY FAR the funnier one, but he knows his gimmick and takes total advantage of it), and Lochlyn Munro steals every scene he's in.
In the end, if you like the genre (parody, not slasher) then you will LOVE what is done here. I take that back, if you love EITHER genre, you should love this film.
Just, don't be a prude.
Stupid, but VERY fun to watch July 11, 2009 Eric S. Kim (Southern California) This isn't in the same league as Airplane! or Spaceballs. Here, the humor is more crude and . . . well . . . stupider. You won't get much toilet humor here, though. It's more about sex, homosexuality, stupid teenage girls, stoners, and, of course, the horror films of the late 90's. From "Scream" to "I Know What You Did Last Summer," It's always nice to see a spoof of these silly teenage horror flicks that give only cheap thrills. And not only that, there's even some "Matrix" and "Usual Suspects" thrown in. Despite its lack of originality, this is still very funny. So what if it's downright stupid? It's a comedy! It's made to make us all laugh. And MAN, did it make me laugh?
I'm not really into the more recent spoofs (like "Epic Movie" and "Dance Flick") that fail in many levels, but the first two "Scary Movie" flicks I really enjoyed watching. The first one, in particular, has to be the funniest out of all of them.
"WASSUP!!" June 30, 2009 D. Meeker (USA) Scary Movie is a movie that makes fun of popular horror movies with the main parody being Scream. The movie is original and pretty funny. My favorite part is when the killer calls Shorty and they start going "Wussup!" over the phone. Almost every part with the killer is pretty funny. Of all four Scary Movies I think that the first one was the funniest. The DVD special features contain deleted scenes and a behind the scenes featurette. The movie also stars Shannon Elizabeth who played Nadia in the first two American Pie movies.
Scary Movie 1 is a 4 Star DVD May 30, 2009 alex fryling (erie pa) This is my second favorite of all the scary movies in the series. This was when the series wasn't getting boring and repetitive. The scary movie series kind of started a new era when it comes to movie spoofs. I have to say I am a huge scary movie fan but the comedy in this movie is hilarious. They use spoofs from all kinds of movies from scream, Halloween. The movie flowed well and the content well it was a little over the edge that's what made the scary movie series great. The third and fourth one seemed softer and since they knew they were going to get viewers either way I feel they made it softer and PG-13 so more kids could watch it. Overall this is definitely worth a look for one time around. I would even recommend that you pick up the second DVD as well but I would not go buy the third or fourth. A funny movie and something to watch with your friends.
