Amazon.com When car nut and aspiring B movie maverick H.B. "Toby" Halicki released his debut film, he gave top billing to his car, a yellow 1973 Ford Mustang named Eleanor. That's a good indication of Halicki's priorities in the original car-crunching, tire-squealing drive-in classic Gone in 60 Seconds. Halicki wrote, produced, starred, and did all of his own extraordinary stunt driving in the picture, the story of a career car thief who makes a deal to steal 48 cars for an overseas smuggler. OK, it's not Shakespeare. The plot is perfunctory at best, and Halicki's all thumbs when it comes to directing his wooden cast, but he gives a crash course in the mechanics of the car-theft biz and tops it off with one of the greatest car chases of all time: a 40-minute finale that roars through five Los Angeles-basin towns and destroys 93 cars in the process. It's a masterpiece of stunt driving, down-and-dirty photography, and sharp, furious cutting; the unsung hero of the picture is editor Warner Leighton, who paces the film perfectly and never lets it stall. Forget the messy Nicolas Cage in-name-only remake, this is outlaw auto cinema at its purest. --Sean Axmaker

Remastered Gone in 60 Seconds July 3, 2009 Rick S. (Orange, CA United States) Never another chase scene like this. Filmed where I grew up. I enjoyed JC Agajanian's interview. Product was in excellent condition and arrived on time.

The movie took a little longer than I was usual than expecting. I think it came 2 weeks after I ordered it (usually they come the same week). Movie is in better condition than what it said online.
Watchable, fun, plenty of digital candy, but predictable and lacks staying power April 24, 2009 Alan Holyoak (In the shadow of the Tetons) First of all, I know that there are people out there that think that this movie is the absolute greatest. It does appeal to many of the senses, but in my opinion, it lacks the makings of a classic movie. It, however, may qualify as a sort of cult classic, but not a movie classic. The acting is clearly back-seated to many beautiful cars, hip music, and, surprisingly, big-name actors (e.g., Cage, Jolie, Duvall). I found the storyline to be quite predictable, as was the outcome. You know the drill...there is an evil bad guy and developments endanger a family member of a good bad guy, thus forcing the good bad guy to bow to the evil bad guy far enough to try to save the other family member. There is also a street-wise cop that has a history with the good bad guy, but their interactions exist primarily to provide a situation for a high speed chase that is included in the movie mainly to total as many cars of as many innocent drivers as possible. Don't get me wrong...this kind of action movie is amazing...it's got plenty of, well, ACTION. If that's what you are after, "Gone in 60 Seconds" will give it to you. If you are, however, looking for character development, a story you could watch again and again, and more that digital candy, then this movie is probably not for you. For those reasons I give this movie 3 stars. You'll probably enjoy watching it, but when you're done there's, alas, not much reason to watch it again. 3 stars...fun action, but it's quite predictable and then forgetable.
