    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com
Luc Besson (TheFifth Element) made his American directorial debut with this stylized thriller about an Italian hit man (Jean Reno) who takes in an American girl (Natalie Portman) being pursued by a corrupt killer cop (Gary Oldman). Oldman is a little more unhinged than he should be, but there is something genuinely irresistible about the story line and the relationship between Reno and Portman. Rather than cave in to the cookie-cutter look and feel of American action pictures, Besson brings a bit of his glossy style from French hits La Femme Nikita and Subway to the production, and the results are refreshing even if the bullets and explosions are awfully familiar. --Tom Keogh

It was quiet an experience to watch "Leon" in this Extended Edition in Blue Ray. A master piece.

The short and sweet of it...

I love this movie. While this blu-ray doesn't have much if anything extra over the director's cut extended DVD. The upgrade in audio and visual fidelity is worth every penny. Watching this version was almost like seeing the movie for the first time all over again.

Do not hesitate to buy. Even if you already own the DVD.

    4 out of 5 stars The Professional-superbit edition   January 8, 2010

I ordered this DVD because I recently bought my first HDTV. Short of BluRay, I thought this "high-end" DVD might be a good way to check out my new set. When I ran the disc I was pleased to find that it loaded and played perfectly. The image was excellent and exactly filled the 16:9 aspect ratio of my set. I have found that most of my DVD's have to be manually set for screen size and my TV's settings either underfill or overfill the screen, a software issue I believe.

This disc worked perfectly except for one grievous defect, NO sound! I concluded that Amazon's warning about Superbit disc issues was well founded. I tried the disc in a second player and found that when I changed the sound setting, the disc's sound plays perfectly. The disc says that it is DTS (whatever that is), yet it was when I changed my sound setting from DTS to Dolby stereo, that the disc's sound appeared. I will diagram it for greater clarity. Perhaps I can save the next customer a bit of frustration. ( SOUND SETTING: DTS > Dolby 5.1 ) This worked.

I have yet to watch the entire disc, having received it in the mail only a couple of hours ago. The disc seems to work perfecly in my Toshiba DVR machine and not in my Insignia DVD/VHS combo player. Check your player for the ability to switch sound from DTS to Dolby 5.1 before buying this disc. I hope this helps a few people.

5 out of 5 stars Well made film.   January 4, 2010

A tragic story, it keeps the audience on their feet, and eyes glued to the screen. Best Jean Reno's film made so far, (haven't seen any afterwards). Very realistic, human tragedy's story, but at the end... well, you'll see. Didn't know much about Natalie Portman. She was adorable. Now she's one of my favorites. Both Natalie Portman and Jean Reno can act, unlike many other overpaid underachievers. One of a few films gets a five stars.
