Plane crashes, pickpockets, hurricanes--heaven and hell is moving to prevent our able hero Ben (Ben Affleck) from marrying his sweetie (Maura Tierney) in Savannah. At every turn he runs into someone else despairing about the woes of married life. And of course, temptation proves overwhelming in the face of traveling companion Sarah (Sandra Bullock), the wild woman whom he can't seem--or doesn't want--to lose.

After a wayward bird flies into the engine of his airplane, Ben is forced to find another way to his wedding. He finds himself stuck with Sarah, whom he carried from the plane after she was whacked in the noggin by his laptop. The heat between them is unmistakable, and the drama in the film comes from the "will he or won't he," both in terms of sleeping with Sarah and meeting up with his bride. Forces of Nature is a fun and sentimental road-trip film, but Ben is such a strait-laced noodge, you can't help but want him to fall flat on his face just a little. Bullock is the life of this film, although her free-spirited ways get a bit tired (responsibility is not all bad). The highlight of this movie, though, is definitely the cinematography. The beautiful rain shots and the colors of the scenes lend to the unsettling mood. While the jokes are not rip-roaring, Forces is to be reckoned with for those times when a lighthearted film is what you need. --Jenny Brown

    2 out of 5 stars disappointed   March 18, 2010
    Christy Lovejoy (Maryland, USA)
I love watching Sandra Bullock - in anything. But the character she played here felt like it pulled her image down and I felt sad. She was excellent as an actress here, but i just don't like the person she played. I did not like her lying about Affleck being a doctor; did not like how she took a bath oblivious to how that might affect her travel mate, or how she got mad and walked out when Affleck's wedding party saw him in the pool with her - she knew what the whole situation was; why get mad at Affleck for being caught in it? I understand she came from a hard background, and did what she felt she had to do to survive, but I like seeing her in roles where she has integrity and principles - like Miss Congeniality and Blind Side. It just was not believable that Affleck and she would fall for each other - be intrigued with each other perhaps, or learn something from each other. I did not like Affleck's character either - immature, unprincipled, impressionable, impetuous. The movie had nice aspects but nothing came together right. All the actors/actresses were excellent -I love Blythe Danner; it was not the acting; not even the directing. I guess the story was unappealing and some vague sense that this was all wrong. There was no opening of the heart, no transfomation, no beautiful life lessons learned. Lots of yelling and low life stuff and hurt feelings...I turned it off before the ending because I could not deal with the idea that one of the women would be so hurt and I did not even want to know. Wish I had not seen it.

4 out of 5 stars Forces of Nature   March 3, 2010
    Arnita D. Brown (USA)
Ben Holmes, a pretty regular guy, is on his way to his wedding. A little accident hinders the takeoff, and soon Ben finds himself in a third person's rental car together with eccentric but attractive Sarah. Several catastrophic incidents later, the two are thought to be a married couple and run into Ben's best friend and his girlfriend, who happens to be the bride's best friend. Now, Ben and Sarah have to face the problem that they really might be made for each other, but they also might just be panicking about the upcoming events: His marriage and her first meeting with a special person. This movie is very entertaining and not particularly predictable. There's good acting, lots of interesting developments, and a very good story. A nice movie, with enough humour and charm to entertain.

5 out of 5 stars Great movie!!!   October 11, 2009

This is a great movie and has a lot of laughs. Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck have perfect chemistry. One of my favorites!

3 out of 5 stars force of nature--   March 12, 2008
    Michelle Polk (Mississippi, USA)
Just didn't get the point of this movie. IT has sorry a ending. The story of an engaged man getting trapped with a woman that is a bit on the loony side. **spoiler** They end up getting together after trying very hard not to. They decide that they are meant to be together but only in the end separate!!

    2 out of 5 stars A complete mess!   September 3, 2007
    ADRIENNE MILLER (TENNESSEE)
Forces of Nature is probably my least favorite film of Sandra Bullock's career. There's nothing wrong with her performance, she is funny and brilliant as always but to me Ben Affleck's wooden acting ruined this so-so film. There are parts of this film I like and parts I do not. The film has a week premise and never takes float, the ending is disappointing and the writing is sloppy. If you want a great Sandra Bullock film then check out 28 Days or Practical Magic, leave this one on the shelf.
