Fully aware of its status as the sequel to the surprise hit thriller of 1996, this lively follow-up trades freshness for familiarity, playing on our affection for returning characters while obeying--and then subverting--the "rules" of sequels. Once again, movie references are cleverly employed to draw us into the story, which takes place two years after the events of Scream, at a small Ohio college, where the Scream survivors reunite when another series of mysterious killings begins. Capitalizing on the guesswork involving a host of potential suspects, director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson have crafted a thriller that's more of a Scream clone than a genuinely inventive new story. But the shocks are just as effective, and escalating tension leads to a tautly staged climax that's simultaneously logical and giddily over the top. Background information for trivia buffs: to preserve the secrecy of plot twists, copies of the screenplay were heavily guarded during production and restricted to only the most crucial personnel. When an early draft was circulated on the Internet, screenwriter Kevin Williamson did rewrites, and subsequent drafts were printed with red ink on brown paper, eliminating the threat of photocopying. "Scream 2" is the intense sequel to one of the biggest money-making horror films of the nineties. Very few sequels are as good as the original, but "Scream 2" has as many plot twists and shocking and scary surprises as the first. Heroine Sidney Prescott is at college when a copycat killer starts to murder victims. Heart pounding, nail biting, and blood curdling are all reactions you will experience upon viewing "Scream 2". The film itself enjoyed immense success at the boxoffice when it was originally released in 1997. The opening is one of the best as patrons are enjoying a movie called "Stab" when actual murders take place in the theatre. These patrons believe that a stunt is taking place when in actuality a woman is dying right in front of them. A final movie in the "Scream" series would be released in 2000 and that would mark the conclusion to one of the greatest horror franchises in cinema history. This single sided DVD only comes with the trailer and cast filmographies.

It's been two years since the horrid events in Woodsboro, and most of the survivors have tried to put the events behind them. Reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) has written a book about the events that has been turned into the new movie Stab. Opening weekend, two viewers are brutally killed in a theater in the college town where Sidney (Neve Campbell) and Randy (Jamie Kennedy) attend classes.
Try as they might to ignore it, there is soon evidence that a copy cat killer is on the loose in their town. With Dewey (David Arquette) back in the mix, the entire group of survivors have reunited. Has one of them gone over the edge? Or is someone out to get revenge on them? Or maybe the killer has been inspired by Stab? Will any of them survive long enough to figure it out?
After the success of the first movie, it was rather obvious that a sequel would come out. This one was rushed through, with only a year between movies. At times it shows, with some elements feeling a little rehashed. However, for the most part, this stands up well. It is a continuation and not a complete copycat. A few times the character's actions don't seem logical, but they set up some of the best suspense sequences of the film, so I won't complain too loudly.
Like the first movie, there is a great balance of thrills and laughs. Some of the lines are downright funny. Yet there are moments that have me holding my breath even after I've seen them numerous times.
Because the movie continues the story, we really get to see some character development with the returning cast. Sidney especially grows a lot stronger over the course of this film. I also like what they did with Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber). Because I really do like the returning characters (even Gale), there is one death that still upsets me, but it did make the rest of the movie that much more intense.
Yes, this is a rated R Slasher. That means you get lots of violence and foul language. Not my normal genre, but I know that when I sit down to rewatch it.
This movie doesn't quite have the punch of the first one, but if you want an entertaining slasher, you can do much worse.

I'm baffled by the mixed reception of this film. Despite what this site might make you believe, people are actually pretty divided about this sequel. Personally, I think it's almost as good as the first film. Not quite as good, but still a damn good film even after ten years. Again, this is what teens should be watching, not the numerous crappy slasher remakes like Prom Night (How in the hell are teens raving about such a God-awful film?). When it comes to horror sequels, this is one of the few exceptions that doesn't suck. Like the first film, this is definitely a great late-night horror film to watch.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The film oddly starts off at a theater where the debut of the film Stab (Based on the events of the first film) when a college couple goes to see it. Everyone seems to having a good time watching the film and many have dressed up like the killer in this first film. But then the couple is stabbed to death in theater. Then we are once again introduced to Sidney Prescott who seems to have moved on from the events of the first film. She has a new boyfriend, some old and new friends, and everything is going great for the most part, and even manage to shake off what happened at the theater and don't think much of it, until a sorority girl is murdered by the killer from the theater and then attempts to kill Sidney. From then on, Sidney, her friends, once again Gale Weathers, and the released Cotton Weary (Who Sidney in the first film believed he had killed her mother but he had not) are all pulled into a plot to kill Sidney once again and face even more danger. Like the first film, this will leave you guessing all the way through to the end. Once again, Kevin Williamson has crafted a superb plot like he did in the first film.
MUSIC: Once again Marco Beltrami does a great job with the music in this film. It's never boring and it does set the mood quite well.
ACTION: Like the first film, this one was pretty much almost never boring. Unfortunately, this one isn't quite as gory as the first film. That's not to say that this film isn't violent though. This film still has plenty of offer in terms of slasher violence and is still a slasher fan's delight.
ACTING: This time, none of the actors suck and they're all pretty good and perform their roles quite well. Once again, Neve Campbell delivers a fantastic performance, as well as returning actors David Arquette, Courtney Cox, and Jamie Kennedy. There's no slouches when it comes to the actors this time.
HUMOR: This film isn't quite as humorous as the first unfortunately. It still manages to make you laugh in certain parts, but it's missing the charm of the first film in terms of humor. This area is still good, but not as strong as the first film's.
OVERALL: If you love slashers, then you must buy this film along with the first and if you're a teenager you should be watching these films instead of garbage like Prom Night. A slasher's delight and great late-night horror film, Scream 2 is a definite must-have along with the first.
THE GOOD: Great acting, a good deal of slashing, great music, and a good sense of humor.
THE BAD: Gore and humor lack in this film compared to its predecessor.

I searched our entire town for this Dvd, and ended up finding it on amazon. It was shipped very quickly and was in prefectly playable condition with no skips.

The horrific events that swept Woodsburrow in Scream seem to be reviving as Hollywood has created a movie about the events called STAB, based off Gale Weathers exploitations in her book on the Woodsburrow Murders. And again, Sydney Prescott is the target.
Now in College, Sydney is trying to move foward in her life. School, boyfriend, and friends, but some of the scariest ghosts, come back to haunt a second time. Suddenly, the survivng Woodsburrow gang, and Sydney find themselves in the grasp of the ghost face killer, removing friends and family to single Sydney out. The rules of a scary movie sequel are tested and bent as the killer creates some of the scariest and most allaboriate scare scenes in the genres history. And that is just the begining. All screams come to a hault at the finale. You'll be holding your breath, and onto your chair.
