Amazon.com This big, fat theatrical bomb has a lot going for it. There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. There's music, special effects, and magic. There's a surprisingly horror-filled plot. Whoops, hold up on that last one. It's probably the extremes that this film goes to (displaying a Disney label), such as the witches sucking the life out of a little girl in the first five minutes, that put the brakes on any success for Hocus Pocus. Older children, however, in the 8 and up range should get a kick out of all the weird goings-on. It's a good measure of Halloween thrills and chills. --Keith Simanton

Hocus Pocus, trick or treat?...I say TREAT! ! ! March 17, 2010 j michael d I first saw this movie when I was Twelve and I've been hooked ever since.I haven't met many people that had any negative things to say about this film, most everyone I've shown this movie to has liked or loved it. I do agree with most people posting here, this movie is very underrated compared to a lot of films in it's genre.
Has Laughs and Suspense too January 29, 2010 Island Dreamer (Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great movie about Max and his sister Danny who moved from L. A. to Salem. But Max soon finds out that the suspicious townsfolk have reason to be. There are witches who swore to come back from the grave and kill all the children. It is up to Max, Danny, and Max's friend Alison to break the curse and save all the kids before its two late. This is a great Halloween move for kids. It's a great family movie that will entertain everyone! It is funny, suspenseful, and imaginative.
A great kid friendly show January 23, 2010 Sabrina_Rhiannon (SLC,Utah) When a virgin lights the black flame candle on Halloween night, the infamous Sanderson sisters, witches that have been dead for three centuries, come back to life and try to bewitch the whole town. The characters, including a talking cat named Binks, are endearing and enchanting. This movie is great fun for anyone. My eleven-year-old daughter really enjoyed it.
Inexplicably beloved and rather bad January 16, 2010 One-Line Film Reviews (Easton, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Bottom Line:
Bette Midler works overtime trying to infuse this featherlight kids movie with some desperately-needed energy, but the sloppy editing, weak child acting, uninteresting storyline and lukewarm direction by choreographer and schlock-merchant Kenny Ortega make this a film to skip.
2/4
SPOOKTACULAR! January 3, 2010 Katara Omar (Santa Clara, Ca) This has to be one of my favorite halloween movies ever made! Great for kids and family alike! The soundtrack isn't bad either!
