Amazon.com essential video The audacious concert film Eddie Murphy Raw rubbed some people the wrong way upon its release in 1987, but there's no denying that between Murphy's more insensitive bits about women and gay men is some of his most inspired material. While the young comedian indulges an unattractive homophobia and rants about the sexual manipulativeness of all females, he makes up for it with an amazing story about being chided by Bill Cosby for obscene humor and does a great impression of Mr. T falling under the spell of a Jedi mind trick. The best stuff comes deep into the show, particularly a long tale of being pressured into a fight at a club, resulting in a phone call to Murphy's drunk father, the latter in the middle of a verbal attack on his wife. The scene is genuinely horrifying and funny, testament to Murphy's early reputation as heir to Richard Pryor's mercilessly autobiographical brilliance. --Tom Keogh

Classic Eddie Murphy December 24, 2008 Rheadawn Brown (Smyrna, TN USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I grew up watching Eddie Murphy on SNL. I remember when he was a foul-mouthed comedian. Although it's nice to see him mature into a family comedian---I still sometimes crave for the RAW younger Eddie Murphy. I laugh just as hard now as I did 20 years ago.
Improving English Slang November 22, 2008 Michael Kerjman (The Earth) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A handsome guy highlights his natural attractiveness by instantly informing audience of same sex attracted beauties' offers, speaks of dealing with chicks and relatives while scratching bulge and making funny grimaces, bare chest out. Very good for improving English-American slang.
Worth a watch and plenty laughs September 21, 2008 thesavvybamalady (Prichard, Alabama USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Eddie kills you in both videos. I remember when you could hardly get a copy of those movies, and now you can get a copy for no more than $5 at the bargain table at Walmart. Nevertheless, Murphy delivers with a skit of him as a child entertaining(more like embarassing) his family with a joke at Thanksgiving as a child. Look for a young Tatyana Ali singing Frankie Lymon's "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", Samuel L. Jackson,Leonard Jackson and others in roles. Moving on to the movie, you cannot help but laugh your behind out. Talking about marriage and getting half.
Even 0omfufu liked it! September 5, 2008 Smegma Cheese (l got a hundred guns, a hundred clips 'coz l'm from New York, New York) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do yourself a favor. Save your money and buy an egg mcmuffin burger at McDonald's. The best part of this was the beginning segment where the fans are saying what their favorite Eddie Murphy's movie was. Everyone is saying, ''Trading Places'', ''Beverly Hills Cop'', ''48 Hours'', and at the end one guy goes, ''Believe it or not, l liked ''Best Defense''. l practically fell out of my seat laughing so much. lf anyone tells you that they didn't like this, tell them to have a Coke and a smile and shut the f--- up!

Raw is what this is. Eddie at his best. The early days were some of his best.
