    Editorial Reviews:

    Product Description
NOW THAT GREG FOCKER IS 'IN' WITH HIS SOON-TO-BE-IN-LAWS, JACK & DINA BYRNES, IT LOOKS LIKE SMOOTH SAILING FOR HIM & HIS FIANCE, PAM. BUT THAT'S BEFORE PAM'S PARENTS MEET GREG'S PARENTS, BERNIE & ROZ FOCKER. THE HYPER-RELAXED FOCKERS & THE TIGHTLY-WOUND BYRNESES ARE WOEFULLY MISMATCHED FROM THE START.

    Amazon.com
Meet the Parents found such tremendous success in the chemistry produced by the contrasting personalities of stars Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller that the film's creators went for broke with the same formula again in Meet the Fockers. This time around, Jack and Dina Byrnes (De Niro and Blythe Danner) climb into Jack's new kevlar-lined RV with daughter Pam (Teri Polo), soon-to-be son-in-law Gaylord (Stiller), and Jack's infant grandson from his other daughter for the trip to Florida to meet Gaylord's parents, Bernie and Roz Focker (Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand in a casting coup). The potential in-laws are, of course, the opposite of Jack, a pair of randy, touchy-feely fun-lovers. The rest of the movie is pretty much a sitcom: put Bernie and Roz together with Jack, and watch the in-laws clash as Gaylord squirms. As with the original, there is a sense of joy in watching these actors take on their roles with obvious relish, and the Hoffman-Streisand-Stiller triumvirate is likeable enough to draw you in. But the formula doesn't work as well in Fockers mostly because much of the humor is based on two obvious gimmicks: Gaylord Focker's name, and the fact that Streisand's character is a sex therapist. As a result, the movie itself is more contrived and predictable, and a lot less fun than the original. The casting is grand, but one wishes more thought was put into the script.--Dan Vancini

    1 out of 5 stars Pitiful   March 28, 2009
    S. Peek (Rocky Mountains, USA)
After seeing 'Meet The Parents', I had big expectations for this sequel. I am very disappointed.

While the first movie had a bit of bathroom humor, this one is totally overdone with sexual innuendo (that is not even remotely funny). Very little of this one is humorous at all.

It features the main characters from its predecessor and adds in Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman as Roz and Bernie Focker. Neither one is very funny or particularly good.

This show is pretty much a waste of an hour and a half. I recommend avoiding it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Sequel   January 21, 2009

I have not seen too many sequels that are as good or better than the first movie. However, this is a classic with a continuation of the domination that Robert De Niro has over his daughter.

I never anticipated Ben Stiller's family being so different than what was betrayed in the first movie. I highly recommend watching both of these movies "back to back."

3 out of 5 stars The critics were right: Not funny at all!   October 12, 2008
    Mitch Clifford (New York)
If you have seen the first movie (Meet the Parents), you can anticipate the story line in this one: Dina (Blythe Danner) and Jack Byrnes (De Niro) finally meet Greg's (Stiller) parents Roz (Streisand) and Bernie Focker (Hoffman). Since the Byrnes' are very uptight, the Fockers must be quite the opposite. Hoffman and Streisand actually did their jobs perfectly and are the highlight of the movie. What spoils everything is, that Greg doesn't know his own parents and acts with surprise to everything they do. Boring. Many of the 'funny' scenes are highly predictable (boring again) or not funny at all. Like showing a middle finger to a one-year old could be funny? Anyway, the baby character could easily be excluded from the film. And the worst character? Definitively Owen Wilson. The audience at the theater went silent at his arrival on the scene. If you have seen Meet the Parents, you will be disappointed with this movie. It simply does not match up. I did not expect intellectual humor (like the hilarious Monty Python's Life of Brian), but the humor in this movie is really on the level of second graders. The critics were right this time.

3 out of 5 stars The laughs are there.   September 2, 2008
    ADRIENNE MILLER (TENNESSEE)
Meet the Fockers is so much better than Meet the Parents but this sequel has its flaws. The best thing about this particular film is the casting of Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, they are a hoot as a weird and unapologetic couple. Ben Stiller is still annoying and Robert De Niro seems rather bored in this sequel, he probably was forced do it. Good comedy just not that memorable.
