An unlikely sisterhood plots a girl-powered revenge in John Tucker Must Die. When the class-overachiever (Arielle Kebbel, Aquamarine), the head cheerleader (Ashanti, Coach Carter), and the vegan alterna-girl (Sophia Bush, One Tree Hill) discover they're all dating the same guy--namely, star basketball player John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe, Desperate Housewives)--they recruit a bashful new girl named Kate (Brittany Snow, The Pacifier) to become the ideal girl to break Tucker's heart. But as Kate uses the gang's combined wiles to lure Tucker, his interest gives her a social standing she's never had before...an intoxicating experience that may cost her a chance at honest love with another boy. John Tucker Must Die contrasts male and female behavior to cunning comic effect. The portrait of high school life is typically absurd, but the engaging cast, sprightly plot, and crisp dialogue will draw you in. It's a testament to the smooth guiding hand of director Betty Thomas (The Brady Bunch Movie, Private Parts) that ex-Playmate Jenny McCarthy's performance can genuinely be called understated. One of 2006's best teen comedies. --Bret Fetzer

4 out of 5 stars very good popcorn chick flick movie   January 24, 2010
    crazysnapple
this is a satisfying teenager/ chickflick movie. It has a funny plot, alot of funny unexpected scenes an is above average when it comes to the huge amount of teen movies being made. I have never seen Jesse Metcalfe as a particularly good actor, but he plays his role as the popular, good looking, jerky, "player" in a good, convincing way. All four girls are enjoyable to watch. Looking aside from the fact that they all look like 25 years olds who could be models when they are actually playing high school kids, they play there parts well. Brittany Snows character Kate is very likable, and her nervous, real, genuine "nice girl" quality is endearing to all viewers. Sophia Bush and Arielle Kebbel have many funny moments and shines in the movie as well.

The movie is as previously mentioned above average in its genre, and I would absolutely recommend watching this instead of mean girls or bring it on.
The movie does not have the biggest message to give the audience, but serves the purpose well if you want a funny chickflick to watch with your girlfriends at a sleepover.

5 out of 5 stars "Jesse Metcalf Is Hot!"   April 17, 2009

I admit I am a gay guy and I love Jesse Metcalf. That's why I bought this film. A truely funny and engaging teen-romp, the film is about a guy (Metcalf) who plays around with a bunch of girls, that is until they find out they have been duped into thinking he is being loyal to all of them. They devise a plan of revenge, and this is where the movie takes off.
Not Academy Award winning material, the film is light-weighted and is aimed at female teens, and I have to say gay men! If your a gay guy reading this review there is an amazing scene of Jesse Metcalf in a pair of bikini briefs that shows every inch of his body!
I first discovered Jesse in the daytime soap opera "Passions", and have followed him to "Desperate Housewives", then to this film. I am hoping Hollywood producers will use him more frequently in their movies.
The DVD comes with full-length director's commentary, the cut and uncut versions of the film, and Jesse takes us on a behind the scenes view of the making of the film.

3 out of 5 stars Mean Girls are Clueless   March 1, 2009

I watched this a while back with a group of women who thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I can't say that I enjoyed it as much, since it IS a chick flick, but there were some positives for the male viewer.

First and foremost, the cast is full of eye candy. Arrielle Kebbel (American Pie Band Camp), Sophia Bush (The Hitcher), and Ashanti are the assorted hot chicks at school. They hardly know each other but they are in the same social stratosphere that causes one to be unaware of others. In comes Brittany Snow (Prom Night) to round out the foursome. Every scene has one of them in it, and the rest of the girls in school are 20 year old models from every conceivable cultural background.

The four prance around in form-fitting, skimpy outfits, two even dressed as cheerleaders, and generally look hot the entire movie, prancing around after the local Big Man on Campus: John Tucker. He's essentially a lesser version of the same guy from Sixteen Candles (What? It's a John Hughes flick!). Besides, even if the guy lead isn't up to par, each and every female cast member is a gargantuan upgrade over that ginger beast Molly Ringwald.

Anyway, JT has already hooked up with the three queens of school, and he has his eyes set on the new chick. All three old conquests want to use this to their advantage to ruin JT. They all eventually learn a lesson everyone should learn: relationship games only end up causing problems. The games eventually cause a few incredibly ridiculous scenes, like the entire male population of a high school wearing thongs.

The best parts of this movie are on the basketball court. Not since Teen Wolf have more ridiculous scenes been filmed. JT evidently has a 65 inch vertical leap, and every other player has the coordination of a drunken roller skater. He even does a completely impossible front-flip dunk, an atrocity that no male audience can let pass.

With a wet t-shirt scene at the end of the movie that turns into a bunch of hot chicks smearing stripper cake all over one another, how bad can it be?

3 out of 5 stars Great Shape   February 21, 2009

John Tucker Must Die was everything I thought it would be and there wasn't even one scratch on it. So this is another wonderful success for amazon.com!

    4 out of 5 stars A Hilarious Film!!!   December 18, 2008
    Pumpkin Man
For a chick flick, this has a really good storyline and is very funny! I had seen it before, but it had been a while. I recorded it 4 days ago, and I finally finished it a few hours ago. Brittany Snow plays a high-schooler named Kate who has never had a boyfriend. While she's working at a restaurant, she sees John Tucker dating three beautiful girls at different times. They all find out, and with Kate's help, they get revenge on him by breaking his heart. If you love comedy, you'll love JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE!!!
