Amazon.com Christy (Lauren Lee Smith) and the rest of the Cutter Gap community are just beginning to recover from a typhoid epidemic when a storm hits the rural alcove. In A New Beginning, the second of a two-part PAX production that began with A Change of Seasons, she gets stranded in the forest with Dr. MacNeill (Stewart Finlay-McLennan), and her fiance David (James Waterston) risks life and limb to rescue her. Despite a loss of property, the town makes it through the storm relatively intact, but many have been changed by the experience. Christy, for instance, has come to see Dr. MacNeill in a new light, thus questioning her engagement to David. Will she marry the preacher or break off the engagement? Marriage is on the minds of several characters in this engaging recollection by the elderly Christy about her experiences as a young schoolteacher in the Smoky Mountains. Age 8 and older. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

NOT Christy May 10, 2009 horses and history For fans of the original Christy series, this is NOT the ending. The movie is TOTALLY wrong. First of all, the main characters are completely different actors(except for the doctor) and they don't do a good job of their parts. The setting is all wrong too, it's so obviously not the real mission house and school. The story is wrong as well. The series left it open as to who Christy marries(we know that the original "Christy", Catherine Marshall's mother, married a preacher). This movie, though, has her marry the doctor. That spoiled everything! Plus, the acting is cheap. The beautiful scenery and music, the quality acting, the genuineness of all the people of Cutter Gap is missing. If you are a fan of the original Christy series, STAY AWAY FROM THIS!
RETURN TO CUTTER GAP March 30, 2009 Norma J. Thomas (tn) The movie is wonderful, although I had to return for an exchange because the movie was defective. I haven't watched the new one yet. I hope it's ok.
Christy - Hours of charm and spirit March 22, 2009 Judith K. Watts (Oklahoma) "Christy" is a movie series that a family can cuddle up with for hours. My husband and I watched it for many nights in a row watching all 19 episodes. Christy is strong minded and has a vision of a world she is ready to work to see. I love her.
Wholesome and wonderful March 6, 2009 z hayes (plano, texas) Firstly, I noticed that when I attempted to post an earlier review of "Return to Cutter Gap", the same review appeared for "A New Beginning", and so I am going to do a review for both episodes. "Return to Cutter Gap" takes off from where the original series ended, the one with Kellie Martin as Christy, and the original series will always be beloved by me as the entire cast was wonderful. In "Return to Cutter Gap", with the exception of Stewart Finlay McLennan as Dr MacNeill, the rest of the original cast has been replaced, and the changes are startling to say the least - Lauren Lee Smith appears stilted in her role in this first episode, and the acting by the other cast members, such as Sam Waterston [replacing Randall Batinkoff] as preacher David, and Dianne Ladd as Ms Alice [replacing the incomparable Tyne Daly] seem ill at ease in their respective role. The storyline for "Return to Cutter Gap" showed potential but was rather abysmally executed - it focuses on the building of a road into Cutter Gap and the negative reaction of the residents. Christy is blamed for the spate of robberies occurring in the area as the residents believe outsiders are to blame for their problems. All in all, "Return to Cutter Gap" was a rather lackluster production compared to the original series. However, the second episode 'A Change of Seasons" and the final in this series " A New Beginning" were vast improvements on "Return to Cutter Gap". My review for "A Change of Seasons" can be viewed under that DVD description. In "A New Beginning", Christy is faced with a confusing and difficult decision when Dr MacNeill returns to Cutter Gap proposing marriage, even though Christy has already accepted David's proposal and the marriage date is approaching. A fierce storm causes Christy to be thrown into Dr MacNeill's company and the pair seek shelter at a remote cabin. Dr MacNeill nurses Christy back to health from a raging fever and in the process, Christy makes an important discovery about her feelings for both David and MacNeill and her future. The two episodes following the weakly-executed "Return to Cutter Gap" are well-directed and the actors all seem to be more comfortable with their respective roles. This is wholesome family entertainment and I highly recommend them.

I was so excited to get this movie because I loved the TV show. I watched it once and I will never watch it again. It was like watching a bad home made movie and don't get me started on the acting!
