Amazon.com Originally developed as an epic called Kingdom of the Sun, The Emperor's New Groove lost scale and most of Sting's song score (some of which can be heard on the soundtrack) on its way to the screen. The end result is the lightest Disney film in many a moon, a joyous romp akin to Aladdin in its quotient of laughs for kids and adults. The original story centers on the spoiled teenage emperor Kuzco (David Spade), who enjoys getting the best of his Aztecan subjects. When he fires Yzma (Eartha Kitt), his evil sorceress, she seeks revenge and turns Kuzco into a llama with the help of her hunk of the month, a lunk named Kronk (Patrick Warburton). Alone in the jungle, the talking llama is befriended by Pacha (John Goodman), who has just been told to vacate his pastoral home by the human Kuzco. What's an ego to do? That's pretty much the story and the characters--simple, direct, fun--a Disney film on a diet. For any fan of the acidic humor of Spade, this is essential viewing. As narrator of his tale, Kuzco uses a sarcastic tone to keep the story jumping with plenty of fun asides (he even "stops" the film at one point to make sure you know the story is about him). Even better is character actor Warburton (Elaine's stuck-up boyfriend on Seinfeld), who steals every scene as the dim-witted, but oh-so-likable Kronk. There's even a delicious Tom Jones number that starts the film off with a bang. --Doug Thomas

Disney Delivers June 29, 2009 Adrienne B. (United States) I remember when this movie first came out. I was only 13 and remember being so excited to see it in theatres. I also remember not liking it much at all. However, I ended up rewatching it once it was released on video and fell in love with it. It has been one of my favorite Disney movies ever since. I think part of the reason that I did not like the movie the first time I had seen it was because I just didnt get a lot of the subtle humor that is displayed throughout the entire movie. Im glad I gave it another chance though because this movie is down right hilarious. And to top it off they have a good group of voice actors that really gave life to the characters that they play. I especially love how Patrick Warburton played Kronk. And the dvd itself hasnt ever given me any problematic issues which is a huge plus. But anyway, it just goes to show that even if you dont like something right away, it never hurts to try it again. Who knows, maybe your tastes may have changed by then or you will pick up on something that you may have missed the first time around. I know Im glad that I decided to watch this movie again considering now that it is one of my favorites. I say kudos to Disney for another great animated film.
You can't go wrong with Disney! :D June 22, 2009 M. Kelly This is my absolute favorite Disney movie! It is watchable over and over, and never grows dull. Beautiful animation, action packed, extremely funny, unpredictable! Not too many "break into song cheesy" scenes. The characters are extremely appealing. The evil character wasn't grotesque, but brilliantly scheming in a silly clever way. Definitely proud to own this one!
Very Funny! June 18, 2009 customer (Nashville, TN USA) The Emperor's New Groove (2000) is a unique Disney film. Instead of being a musical like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, or Aladdin, it's a straight-up comedy. The great thing about it is that the jokes not only make kids giggle, but will keep adults howling with laughter as well. The story is about a spoiled, cynical, and completely self-absorbed young emperor named Kuzco (David Spade). Kuszo plans to build a private amusement park (for himself, of course). Building the park requires demolishing an entire hillside village. When he meets with the village leader called Pacha (John Goodman) to tell him the "good news", Pacha objects, but is quickly silenced. Meanwhile, Kuzko fires his scheming adviser Yzma (Eartha Kitt) for trying to take over the kingdom. Yzma devises her revenge by planning to poison Kuzko with the help of her not-so-bright assistant Kronk (Patrick Warburton). Unfortunately for Yzma, she faces a minor setback because the poison is really a potion that transforms Kuzko into a llama. Krunk unsuccessfully tries to dispose of Kuzko and the emperor soon ends up with Pacha. After returning to Pacha's village, Pacha agrees to take Kuzko home on the condition that the emperor turns over a new leaf. The moral of the story should be obvious to adults, but the film's message does not try to get in slow down its fast-paced humor. The fact that this film is just as entertaining for kids as it is for adults makes it very worthwhile to watch. Although not of the same caliber of some of the aforementioned Disney masterpieces, it is classic in its own particular way.
One of Disney's hidden classic May 17, 2009 Christopher M. Meo Disney knows what they are doing. Taking on a comidy in this great movie featuring David Spade and Patrick Warburton who are two quality actors. Don't let this movie get passed you. Great fun for all ages.
Lots of fun March 21, 2009 A. Alfonso (Tampa, FL USA) I like this movie so much, it's very funny, the Yzma character makes me laugh a lot throughout the movie not to mention when she turns into a cat at the end, also the emperor is very funny when he turns into a llama. I definitely recommend this movie if you wanna have a fun time, it's a great family movie.
