Cooler will not rest until the man who destroyed his brother is vanquished even if that means blowing up the entire planet!Goku was able to tap into his hidden powers and transform into a Super Saiyan once before. The question is now that the Earth is threatened by Frieza's older (and stronger) brother can he do it again?Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ANIMATION/ADULT SWIM UPC: 704400030758 Manufacturer No: FN-03075
Amazon.com Originally released in 1991, the fifth Dragon Ball Z feature (a.k.a. Tobikkiri no Saikyou tai Saikyou--"Fantastic Ultimate Strength vs. Ultimate Strength") involves the characters from the TV episodes, but in an unrelated continuity. Goku and Gohan set off on a camping trip with Krillin and Oolong, but their outing turns into a battle royal when they're attacked by the minions of Cooler, Frieza's older brother. Piccolo appears as a Nameck ex machina to aid Gohan, but the centerpiece of the film is the battle between Goku in his Super-Saiyan form and Cooler, who looks like a purple iguana in a football uniform. The various Dragon Ball properties balance slapstick and fantastic action; Cooler's Revenge offers lots of action, and a rock soundtrack, but little comedy. Unrated: Suitable for ages 8 and up; contains cartoon violence. --Charles Solomon

Great Movie For DBZ Fans July 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Frieza, in all his foolishness, let the young Goku escape in a Saiyan spacepod during his battle with Bardock. Looking from afar was his brother, Cooler, who let the Saiyan child live stating that he would be Frieza's eventual downfall. He couldn't have been more correct...
Now that the tyrant Frieza has finally fallen, Cooler has arrived on Earth looking for Goku in order to seek revenge. Goku is not able to stand up to Cooler's initial assault, so now it's up to Gohan and all his friends to protect him until he can recover and summon the Super Saiyan strength he needs to finally defeat Cooler.
I thought this was a great Dragonball Z movie, and one of the best ones overall. Goku is injured early on in the film, which takes much of the focus off of him and places it instead on his son, Gohan, and his comrades. This gives the story an opportunity to make use of the supporting cast to a much greater extent, allowing them to become much more than just weaklings that get tossed aside in the early stages of a fight. There is also much more depth to Cooler's character than there is to the villains that came before him in previous movies. An example of this is illustrated in a scene where he admits he doesn't care much for Frieza and that he deserved what he got, but still has an obligation to try and avenge his death. The FUNimation dub is done more decently this time around than it was in Lord Slug, though the soundtrack still needs work and the French accent portrayed by Sauzer's character is quite exaggerated and over the top.
If you're a Dragonball Z fan at all, then you should buy/watch this movie. Keep in mind when viewing it though, that it does conflict with what happens in the series. For example, Goku should not be on Earth until Trunks arrives and kills Frieza and King Cold, so it's not possible that he would be waiting there when Cooler shows up. Aside from continuity issues, it's a great standalone movie and shouldn't be missed!
Killer soundtrack but same old story March 20, 2007 I truly believe if you seen one DBZ movie then you seen them all. Cooler's Revenge follows the same formula as practically every DBZ movie. But atleast this one dellivers some background.
During Frieza's attack on Planet Vegeta and Goku's escape. Cooler, Frieza's brother witnesses Goku's escape pod leaving the planet. He soon learns a saiyan living on earth is responsible for Frieza's death.
The one thing about this movie that I liked the most is the soundtrack. Cooler's Revenge sports probably the best soundtrack in all of DBZ. The songs are just on point and works very well with the action.
I also liked the fact Piccolo didn't come off as a weakling here. He was actually a threat and used very well. The biggest disappointment to me was definitly the last battle but others may enjoy it.
Still I find this to be one of the better DBZ movies. Even though it follows the same formula. The soundtrack and Piccolo being taken serious makes up for it.
Good July 24, 2006 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is an O.K DBZ movie. It actually has good music for once which make the the fights all more dramatic. It starts out when Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Oolong and Icarus go on a camping trip. Suddenly, without warning, 3 bad guys, Sauzer, Doray and Neize appear and easily defeat Krillin and Gohan. Goku appears and manages to fend off the fearsome threesome. When their boss, Cooler appears, things really get interesting.... Goku gets hit by twin eye beams and is badly injured.... Gohan goes to Korin Tower and gets a bag of Senzu beans for Goku, but just as Goku is about to have one, Sauzer appears and destroys the bag of beans! Meanwhile, Piccolo appears and was able to kill Doray and Neize, but Sauzer escaped. Krillin fends off Sauzer, and Gohan remembers that Yajirobe gave him and extra bean! Piccolo, after killing 2 of the trio, is nearly killed by Cooler when he appears and blasts Piccolo with an energy beam. Gohan feeds the final bean to Goku, and Goku fights Cooler. The two seem evenly matched, but when Cooler transforms, Goku doesn't have a prayer! After Cooler kills an innocent bird, Goku's anger swells up and he becomes a Super Saiyan, his energy also revives the bird, and Goku smashes Cooler into submission! But Cooler's able to gain energy to create a Supernova! Goku, with great difficulty, manages to bounce back the Supernova wich drives into Cooler, pusing him back towards the sun, thus killing him. Just as everybody reunites, Sauzer appears! But suddenly, a beam comes put of nowhere and kills him, and then the movie's over. This is an O.K, movie, but only DBZ fans can actually enjoy it.
A Great Movie December 4, 2005 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This movie is a great movie. It is a must have for DBZ fans. The fighting what it should be. Goku, Gohan, Krillin, and a pig dude (don't remember the name) go on a camping trip. While they are camping, Cooler and his henchmen come to Earth to kill Goku. They fight the henchmen and lose because Cooler interveins. Then Piccolo comes in and starts kicking their butts. But Cooler interveins again and suprises Piccolo. Goku fights Cooler and is winning until Cooler undergoes a transofmration. Then Goku gets is butt kicked. Goku see a bird die and Goku turns into Super Saiyan and easily wins against Cooler. Cooler launches his ultimate attacks and Goku shoots it back at him. Cooler is shot into the sun and Goku wins. The End.
