Amazon.com Clint Eastwood's 1978 comedy introduces Filo Beddoe, a truck driver and mechanic whose daily life is an absurd grind. He's constantly coming up short on money, love, and anything else to help him get through the day, while also saddled with a loony mother (deliciously played by Ruth Gordon), a best friend (Geoffrey Lewis) who's not too swift on the uptake, and an orangutan named Clyde who fights almost as well as Clint. While moonlighting as a bare-knuckle fighter, Clint finally meets the girl of his dreams (Sondra Locke), a snooty country singer who rebuffs him even as he pursues her, trailed by bikers and brawlers. It's Eastwood's magnetism and charm that make this more than a mere string of comic sketches, and things move along quickly enough to be entertaining, if a little thin. Clyde is a natural scene-stealer, but it's Ruth Gordon's crazy, cranky old coot who steals the movie. --Robert Lane

A Real Fun Movie December 31, 2009 Johnoconnor (Wallingford CT USA) First, I like Clint Eastwood. Pairing him with a hairy orangutan buddy Clyde, as his co-star,while he supplements his income as a bare-knuckle fighter is unlikely to say the least, but it works well in this enjoyable movie. Chasing his paramour Sondra Locke, who jilted him for some nerdy wimp, through some of the prettiest country in the Rocky Mountain west makes for some great viewing in the Blu ray format.
Complications in the form of an over the hill motorcycle gang, and bumbling sherriff's deputies are all handled deftly by Clint's punches and even in one case by Clyde's straight right jab.
Ruth Gordon, who plays "Ma" is priceless as a "defenseless old woman" left on her own when Clint and his buddies leave to hunt for Locke. She turns out to be as defenseless as a swat team when harrassed by the inept biker gang.
Good Movie, lots of fun and just super in Blu Ray.
Every Which Way But Loose October 3, 2009 DMac (Terra Prime) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
How can you go wrong? Clint Eastwood, Clyde and a host of truly unique and funny supporting characters make this move a treasure. Subtle humor rides shoulder to shoulder with Three Stooges classic physical comedy, a script so tight it turns on a dime - A fun time for all! Transfer is very good (especially for a film of this age), and the sound is more than acceptable. Recommended.

Watch what you pay for! September 6, 2009 Lana J. Hendricks (Bellevue, WA USA) 1 out of 14 found this review helpful
I had out of town company at my house for over a week and they had mentioned that they had not seen Clint Eastwood's Every which Way But loose so, I decided to order it and pay for Expedited Shipping (2 day delivery) I paid for this idem and never recieve it. I however did get my shipping returned ($5.19). The company and Amazon seems to think this is satifactory. They closed my case with me never getting the product or the refund for the product. They was only refunded the shipping (Expedited Shipping of $5.19) I am very sad and unhappy since I had never had a problem with Amazon before and always raved about how great I thought they were. When they don't stand behind their customers they are not worthy of of our loyalty and praise any longer. I do hope all will be aware.
Great Blu-Ray Transfer April 24, 2009 tesg (Iowa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It was probably in its original HBO run that I last saw this awesome comedy, but I saw it pretty much every time it aired...on a 19" color Zenith.
The Blu-ray transfer is outstanding. Yes, it's grainy during the credit sequences, but it's sharp as a tack otherwise...even in the dark bar scenes. The New Mexico and Colorado scenery looks spectacular. And the Dolby True-HD soundtrack sounds great. I could have never imagined this movie looking this good.
If you've somehow missed this movie over the years, it's well worth the bother. If you have it on VHS or DVD, upgrade.
