Product Description Motivational speaker jack corcoran is determined to get his career off the ground but the biggest gigs he can get are the ones nobody wants.. Studio: Tcfhe/mgm Release Date: 02/12/2008 Starring: Bill Murray Jerry Adler Run time: 93 minutes Rating: Pg Director: Howard Franklin
Amazon.com Jack Corcoran (Bill Murray) is a mildly successful motivational speaker on the lower end of the trade-show circuit. At his engagement party, he finds out his long-believed-dead dad has only recently died, leaving him a large inheritance. Of course, Jack doesn't know how large until he meets a suspicious lawyer (Harve Presnel) who unloads Dad's prized possession: a four-ton circus elephant named Vera (Tai). Larger Than Life is a buddy-road movie. Murray uses his old tricks to bully or con several people into helping him, including a whacked-out truck driver (Matthew McConaughey). In this day and age of digital effects, Murray could be teaming up with Roger Rabbit or some other special effect; his interplay with Tai is quite natural. Director Howard Franklin codirected the underrated Quick Change with Murray, and it's clear they work well together. A curio in Murray's career, this film is effective and fun family entertainment, filled with good-natured ribs, bubble-light dramatics, and a scene-stealing elephant. She's a charmer. --Doug Thomas

Family friendly and funny January 23, 2010 S. Colangelo (St. Louis, MO) This is a family-friendly and funny film about clowns and circus life and the antics of an adorable elephant. Great for a themed weekend with your kids tied together with a trip to your local zoo or circus. Lively and fun! If you're near St. Louis, try it with a visit to Circus Flora, our original one ring summer circus, as Bill Murray is rumored to have learned some of his elephant handling and clown tricks from the pros there.
Elephant Magic June 29, 2009 A. Huitema I've seen this movie several times, and I never tire of it. Vera, the elephant, is magical. She trots after Bill Murray like a puppy. She waits patiently - while going on junk food benders. She cheerfully gives Murray a ride but can't resist a swim even if he is astride. But, she consistently devotes herself to his welfare by saving Murray from a junk yard dog and a maniac trucker. Her devotion even extends so far as to shade him from the desert sun. See it; you'll like it.
Good movie, bad format April 11, 2009 Thomas A. Bush (Sebring, FL) For the content of the movie I give it four stars. However, this is a 4x3 cropped version. This appears to be the only format it is available in, so no blame to Amz.

Lesson #1: Never try to follow an animal act... January 23, 2009 Richard Muller (Bradenton, Florida USA) Unless you are Bill Murray! Clearly one of the most adaptable actors of his generation, this lovely film offers up a character at odds with himself, and you soon believe that he is the only one capable of pulling off the role. It's easy to see his predicaments, and the main one is large indeed. Vera should have gotten a "best supporting animal" award, and Murray has freely admitted that their on-screen relationship was wonderful. It shows.
Without going into all the encounters that Murray's character has to deal with, it is best to say that the most unforgettable person in this film is an uncredited Matthew McConaughey. That he appears to be on the wrong side of nervous paranoia is an understatement, and that the target of his rage is just one simple step ahead of him... One GIANT step! Fun for the whole family, it deserved more of an audience than it got. But money doesn't mean everything; this one's a very enjoyable gem that you won't soon forget.
