Amazon.com Chris Rock writes, directs, and stars in the sassy political comedy Head of State, about Mays Gilliam, a black man who's chosen by the leaders of an unspecificed party to run for president after their previous candidates die in a plan crash. Though he initially follows his handler's instructions, Gilliam soon starts handling speeches in his own brazen, outspoken way, which starts to turn the tide--which upsets the party leaders who chose him, since they expected him to lose. While Head of State doesn't quite have the razor wit that Rock wields in his stand-up routine, it has a sharper edge than just about any other political satire in recent memory. Rock bursts with charisma, and his supporting cast (including Lynn Whitfield, Dylan Baker, Robin Givens, and especially Bernie Mac as Gilliam's brother and running mate) provide solid comic support. --Bret Fetzer

Head of State (Widescreen Edition) January 21, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) Mays Gilliam, a Washington D.C. neighborhood Alderman, is about to be red-lined out of his job. But after the untimely death of the party frontrunner, Gilliam is plucked from obscurity, and thrust into the limelight as his party's nominee--for President of the United States. The players in Gilliam's life include: Mitch Gilliam, his unsophisticated older brother who becomes his running mate; Kim, his ex-girlfriend who had once dumped him, but who now has a sudden change of heart as she sees a chance at becoming First Lady; Martin Geller, his campaign manager; Lisa Clark, the woman who truly believes in Gilliam; and Debra Lassiter, the woman who doesn't have faith in his candidacy, and is serving as his reluctant advisor. Chris Rock delivers some funny moments in this movie. It's still perfectly watchable though with both Rock and Bernie Mac doing a good job.
Excellent October 17, 2009 Donna L. Nazario (Germany) The product and service from Amazon are both excellent. I live in Germany and still got excellent service.

Last night, I found out that Barack Obama is going to be our 44th President and the first African-American President! In honor of him winning, I decided to watch this movie! Chris Rock plays Mays Gilliam and is picked to run for Presidency against Vice President Brian Lewis. It starts off as a joke, But Mays takes it seriously, and soon, the whole United States does. Lewis becomes nervous because Gilliam is gaining more followers. Mays picks his brother, Mitch to be his Vice President. Will Mays become the President of the United States? If you love comedy and politics, you'll love HEAD OF STATE!!!
p.s. This is an important day in America because who would have thought that we would ever have an African-American President. GO OBAMA!!!
Pretty good movie for a first time director September 14, 2008 Derrick Dunn (Woodbridge,VA) Head Of State is a pretty funny movie from the not always funny Chris Rock. With history possibly getting ready to be made in Novemeber this film is a true testament of what goes on in poltics. With his directoral debut, Rock made an enjoyable fim.The ad campagins that Rock does towards his opponent had me in tears. Then when Berine Mac comes into the movie he steals it with every scene he's in. If you want a funny film then check this one out.
