Amazon.com After 11 years in development hell and screenplay drafts by 13 different writers, the long-awaited smackdown of Freddy vs. Jason finally arrives. After making their respective debuts in Friday the 13th (1980) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), the hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger, replacing long-time Jason performer Kane Hodder) and razor-gloved Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) square off in a slasher-franchise combo-deal that only their most devoted fans will appreciate; turns out this is a lightweight match in which nobody wins. It's an average entry in the histories of these horror icons, comparable to half of their previous sequels, and Bride of Chucky director Ronny Yu satisfies purists with plenty of gushing blood and mayhem when Freddy recruits Jason to slice 'n' dice the ill-fated teens who've forgotten Freddy's once-formidable reign of terror. While it logically connects the gruesome legacies of Nightmare's Elm Street and Friday's Camp Crystal Lake, this horror hybrid is shockingly uninspired. It briefly peaks when Freddy gives the unconscious Jason a dream-world pummeling, but their ultimate showdown's a draw. In the immortal words of Peggy Lee, is that all there is? --Jeff Shannon

The Dream Match Is Finally Here May 6, 2009 C. Sawin (TX) Freddy Krueger is in hell and he's come to the realization that everyone has forgotten about him and the legacy he had left behind when he died. So he formulates a plan to get people to remember and fear Freddy once again, but he isn't strong enough to do it alone. He resurrects Jason Voorhees by pretending to be Pamela Voorhees and tells Jason to go to Elm Street. Once there, Jason does the dirty work and Freddy Krueger's name starts to spread. The more fear that spreads, the stronger Freddy gets. Things seem to be progressing in Freddy's favor until Jason unintentionally steals a kill from Freddy and winds up setting the stage for a battle between two horror icons that fans have been anticipating for at least a decade. After so much buildup and fans waiting so long for this epic confrontation to take place, there really was no way it could live up to the hype. With that being said, it isn't a terrible film. Just disappointing. It really feels like more of a Nightmare On Elm Street film than a Friday the 13th film. So, right off the bat, that gets to me since I wasn't a big fan of the ANOES franchise and I'm completely biased towards Friday the 13th as a whole. Jason is also suddenly afraid of water and emotional, which hurts the character overall. While this may be the biggest Jason to date, he certainly comes off as the weakest. Freddy seems to be two steps ahead of Jason throughout most of the film, as well. While it makes sense overall, the F13 fan in me would've liked to have seen Jason have a bit more control offensively in the film. Overall, I think the most disappointing factor of this film is that a sequel never materialized even though the film did fairly strong numbers at the box office and on DVD. A few of the endings that were scrapped would have been amazing compared to the inconclusive one we wound up with. It's just a shame because a follow up is nothing more than a dream sequence at this point. Rating - 5/10

Loved it March 21, 2009 marky77 (England) Brilliant movie. In my opinion, one of the best movies out of either series (Friday the 13th or A Nightmare On Elm Street), it's really great. Lot's of suspence and gore and the cool death scenes - everything you could want from a slasher movie. The characters were great to, well developed and likeable and there were quite a few funny lines that made me laugh - and I thought the scne near the start where the teenagers ran out of the house screaming was really funny, like the movie was spoofing itself. People make fun of this movie having Kelly Rowland in it but I thought she was a really good actress and she played a good character, too. Brilliant movie, for fans of Freddy or Jason, or both (like me) :).
