Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Now firmly established as the top-rated television drama, by its third year CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a show positively glowing with confidence. Even when individual cases seem either too contrived or too easily resolved, the indefatigable night shift at the Las Vegas PD crime lab always look the part, solving conundrums and discovering microscopic damning evidence while, apparently, never shedding their own loose hair or skin cells all over the supposedly quarantined crime scenes. In reality, Catherine Willows's flowing blonde locks would contaminate any evidence she collected, but in the world of CSI only the bad guys leave body parts behind--the CSIs themselves are so good they're positively pristine. The 23 episodes of season 3 on this five-disc set present more deliciously bizarre situations for the problem-solving sleuths: cannibalism, snuff movies, dwarfs, death while drag racing, bodies falling from the sky, and various dismemberments all tax the team's acumen. These are all double or multiple-case episodes, though in a characteristic trick of the writing sometimes apparently unrelated murders turn out to be connected (or vice versa, as in "Blood Lust," in which a road-accident victim is not what he seems, and the death of the driver at the hands of an angry mob is made all the more tragic). The mix of genuine forensic science with the glossiest Jerry Bruckheimer production values, plus the virtues of a good ensemble cast headed by William Peterson's modern-day Sherlock Holmes, remains as compelling as ever. --Mark Walker

C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation 3rd Season February 6, 2010 Karen A. Herring (PINE GROVE, PA, US) This program is one of my favorites, that is, of course, until William Peterson left......
CSI February 1, 2010 Belinda J. Clark (Jenks, OK) I ordered the CSI series for my daughter for Christmas, now I can't watch anything else on TV because she ALWAYS has those on. Apparently they were a great gift!!
Live In Fear January 19, 2010 Kevin L. Nenstiel (Kearney, Nebraska) Much as I've enjoyed prior seasons of CSI, Season 3 sticks in my craw. Maybe I've had time to notice something that's always been there, or maybe it's a shift in the creative crew's vision, but this season is more cynical than past seasons. Some episodes seem downright misanthropic. And I'm not the only one who thinks this; if you listen to the commentary tracks, the commentators as good as admit it.
Don't take me wrong. Several episodes maintain the spirit of scientific investigation that makes this show an audience favorite. Characters broaden out and deepen, making our heroes more than mere vehicles to deliver the plot. This is no longer a collection of loosely connected cop stories; CSI, with this season, fleshes out into a textured universe full of open-ended story arcs that hold the audience.
But two episodes feature single mothers victimizing the rich, and these and other stories convey the message that the poor can't be trusted. Several episodes feature the early arrest of an ex-convict, followed by the evidence to justify the arrest, because hey, once a criminal, always a criminal, right? And several feature absolutely random and unjustified violence, with the message that you need to live in fear.
Fans may say I'm reading too much into this. They may say that the murdering movie star or Sam Braun's overt corruption contradict my reading. I admit, the cynical aspects I find aren't monolithic. But that doesn't mean they aren't there. The message of this season seems to be that we ought to be scared of everyone around us, especially the weak and disfranchised, because they may turn on us at any minute.
All this is on top of technology that increasingly looks less like Kojak and more like Captain Kirk; stories in which the guilty party is all too visible before the end of Act II; and romantic subplots that linger too long to be realistic. There are still episodes in this season that I like, which maintain the original spirit of the show, but they are getting lost in the crowd. A show that started well is turning into a mess.
CSI Las Vegas October 24, 2009 Dorothy L. White (Indiana) This was a very nice set of DVD'D.
They run like a dream.
Thanks to you I can see my show the way I like.
