Amazon.com Wild Things is the kind of lurid, trashy thriller that you'll either dive into with unabashed pleasure or turn away from in prudish disgust; it's entirely your choice, but we suggest the former option since it's obviously much more fun. The plot's so convoluted it's hardly worth describing, except to say that it's set in humid Florida and involves a respected high school teacher (Matt Dillon--yes, Matt Dillon as a teacher!) who is faced with accusations of rape by a student (Denise Richards, from Starship Troopers) who had been giving him the kind of attention most people would consider improper for such a "nice" young lady. Another student (Neve Campbell) raises a similar charge against the teacher, and that's when a police officer (Kevin Bacon) begins to investigate the allegations. Just when you think the movie's gone overboard with its shameless sex and absurdly twisted plot, in drops Bill Murray as an unscrupulous lawyer (of course) to spice things up with insurance scams and welcomed comic relief. As directed by John McNaughton (who has a way of making just the right moves with this kind of film noir melodrama), Wild Things is a bona fide guilty pleasure--the kind of movie you may be ashamed to enjoy, but what the heck, you'll enjoy it anyway. --Jeff Shannon

Great little "Guilty Pleasure" film-overall solid Blu-Ray January 9, 2010 :::DIGITAL BABE::: (East Coast) I've had this disc on my shelf since last year April, and never got to watching it. I saw it years ago in the theater, and the look and soundtrack of the film, along with the over the top acting, made it an instant "guilty pleasure". I watched it on a 42" Panasonic Plasma and LG BH200 Blu-Ray Combo player.
The film succeeds in providing some last minute twists (during the credits) that ultimately give the film its meat, in my opinion. The PQ Quality is a 4/5 and AQ 4/5. "Matter of fact" female on female scenes were not common then, and they work within the film, as do the token cop, crook and setting. While the film is not much better in quality than a late night "Skinnemax" romp,it's still very entertaining, and provides some chuckles. It's a worthwhile little escapist film that is successful at providing surprises to the last minute. Definitely worth a watch.

This film deserves to be rated in Rotten Tomatos, not in Stars.
What a waste of talented Actors. Did they all need the money that badly? How sad.
A Good Movie But Lacking In Spots December 8, 2009 M. Boyd 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good cut of the movie. The bonus scenes are interesting and a couple of them really add to the story and make some of the characters more interesting. There are a few extra scenes that are just filler though. The movie itself is really good as is the original DVD. However the special features in this unrated edition are not that great. For example there is no commentary in this version. They easily could have used the existing commentary. There would only be slight gaps in the commentary during the new scenes. Also the other special features are fairly weak.
Overall a good movie but the extras are lacking. If you have the original version stay with that and maybe rent the unrated version and see if it is something you'd like. I own both because I'm a big fan of the movie but many people might not find enough here to warrant a purchases especially if they already own the original DVD.
Good Movie, Good Blu Ray May 6, 2009 The Tao of Netflix (Washington, DC) I'm a big fan of this movie. It has a certain "feel" and atmosphere throughout that is highly appealing to me, lots of shots in the everglades, along a beach/shore..I like that. The who-dun-it part is pretty cool too. The Blu Ray is worth buying; I upgraded from the SD version and was pleasantly surprised.

Wild Things (1998) Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Denise Richards
As campy as a John Waters film and as trashy as a Roger Miller song, Wild Things is set in "South Florida" and the film crew has immense fun with ground level views of gators, snakes & other swampy state natives. But, alas, in the end this movie falls into my most commonly used category of "it should have been better than it was".
The plot is your standard "things are not always what they seem" theme and that is usually what makes for a good thriller or mystery. And while they do load you up with lots of plot twists & turns ... they pretty much over do it and eventually your interest in how the characters are interconnected wanes.
This is what can hurt a movie the most.
When the characters loose their 3-D quality and become flat, 1-D paper cut-out figures, it is hard to connect or identify with them as they go through the motions, no matter how many curveballs they throw at 'cha.
With a great cast and wonderful movie locations what really ruined it for me was all the lesbian kissing & fondling scenes.
