Awesome deal June 29, 2009 Itsalladream My dad loves "B" movies and I got this for his 50th birthday. He has been watching them all the time. Its a great deal for those who like those old classics.
Great VIdeo June 22, 2009 Thomas J. Bartholomew (North Hollywood, CA) I grew up with these 50's sci fi movies. Great to see some of them again.
The Movies That "Plan Nine From Outer Space" Surpassed (but some just barely missed!) May 22, 2009 Donald E. Petersen (Humid, Florida) The Alternative Classics included in "50 Sci Fi Classics" is stunning. I've watched approx. half the movies so far. The titles includes one of the "10 Greatest Alternative Classics", "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians", and many others which often win awards for being among the "100 Greatest Alternative Classics" : (2) "Eegah"; and MANY that place on my list of the "25 Greatest" (nonetheless the "100 Greatest") : (3) The Atomic Brain; (4) Gamera The Invisible (plus two more Gamera movies I've yet to see!); (5) "Teenagers from Outer Space" (this Classic Sci-Fi Movie features one of the most terrifying creatures to almost appear in a Sci-Fi movie --- a giant Gargon); (6) "Mesa Of Lost Women" (a movie that, in many respects, gives the masterpiece "Plan Nine From Outer Space" a run for its money and, no wonder, it hapless stars include the lovely and talented Delores Fuller (Edward D. Wood, Jr's girlfriend and star of three of his movies); (7) three classics from R. Lee Wilder "Killers From Space" (containing special effects that well, aren't very special but are memorable) "Phantom From Space" (featuring an unintentionally hilarious chase scene) and "The Snow Creature" (it awaits me); (8) "The Wild Women of Wongo" (a "cult" classic that receives mixed reviews because, quite rightfully, movie lovers deduct points because it is a sexist/silly comedy that plays for the yucks but, more subtly, so many of the campy jokes are so inept that this fine classic is funny in ways that probably were not intended); (9) "Warning From Space" (although this is the first Japanese sci fi movie filmed in color, the alien's costume steals the movie). Others showing promise of being worthy of serious consideration for the awards include : (10) "Horrors of Spider Island"; (11) Roger Corman's classic "The Wasp Woman"; (12) "Prehistoric Women"; and (13) Roger Corman's "Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet". There are at least a couple of "classics" that are "challenging" to watch because the plot is as excruciatingly slow as a director's "four corners" offense : "The Brain Machine" is the worst of the lot (so far). There several movies that are bad, uninentionally funny in parts, but just aren't in the same league for entertainment value as the "50 Greatest Classics" mentioned above : (1) "The Incredible Petrified World" (often referred to by its nickname, "The Incredible Petrified Movie"); (2) Roger Corman's Classic "She Gods of Shark Reef"; (3) This set includes ten (10) movies that were featured on MST3K : (1) "The Amazing Transparent Man"; (2) "Crash of the Moons" (Rocky Jones); (3) "First Spaceship on Venus"; (4) "Hercules Against the Moonmen"; (5) "Hercules and the Captive Women"; (6) "Horrors of Spider Island"; (7) "The Phantom Planet"; and the aforementioned classics : (8) "The Atomic Brain" (Monstrosity); (9) "Eegah"; and (10) "Gamera the Invincible". So, for lovers of ALL types of 50's and 60's low budget sci fi, but especially people who love Alternative Classics, this fine set from Mill Creek Entertainment offers a lot of value for a very reasonable price. Most of the movie prints are thoroughly acceptable although I'm glad I have a decent sound system to run them through because, like many other reviews have noted, the sound quality is often poor. If you enjoyed watching "Plan Nine From Outer Space" and "Bride of the Monster" and consider Edward D. Wood, Jr. an inspired genius, you'll probably get as much enjoyment out of these maligned "classics" as I have. If your main interest is "traditional" classic sci-fi or horror movies, the "50 Horror Movie Classics" from Mill Creek Entertainment is probably the place to start (unless you want to avoid the duplication and spring for the "250 Horror Classics" which features even more "Alternative Classics" along with many traditional classics (many of which are silent movies including "Nosferatu" and "Metropolis").
Bargain inj a Box April 16, 2009 John Fuquay (Leon, WV) This is a great collection of cheezy (and sometimes pretty good) old sci-fi classics, especially for the great low price.
ScFi Classics 50 Movie Pack Collection March 29, 2009 Chet Lonnquist (Norridgewock, ME USA) I didn't realize just how 'classic' these movies are. Dating back to 'Buck Rogers', for instance, was more like an 'antique' than a 'classic' (if you were to compare them to automobiles). However, I did enjoy some of them. We did have trouble with some of the movies momentarily 'freezing' for several seconds before continuing. Of course I assume this was caused by the DVD process - not the movie itself. The sound was not very clear on some of the movies, too. Also, several of the movies were definitely written for children of the 50's rather than adults. I think if would have been better if more well known movies would had been in the collection such as 'The Blob', 'Them', 'Invaders from Mars'. etc. But I think the collection was probably worth the price just for the effort and time required of putting the collection together, if for nothing else.
