Amazon.com For many fans, the Superman revisionist series Smallville truly hit its stride in its second season, when it shifted focus from traditional comic book conflicts to one of self-discovery for its hero, a teenage Clark Kent (Tom Welling). Fans and first-timers can judge for themselves with this six-disc set, which compiles all 23 episodes and a decent selection of supplemental features. Whereas season 1 focused on Clark using his powers to combat a host of menaces a la the WB's other big fantasy hit, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 2 delved into Clark's past and the extent of his super powers, most notably in the back-to-back "Heat," in which he discovers his heat vision, and "Red," in which red kryptonite in the high school class rings uncorks Clark's less-than-upstanding side. Other plot developments from the season that pull the series in interesting directions include the arrival of Dr. Helen Bryce (Emanuelle Vaugier), who becomes involved with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), but the season's most significant moment comes during episode 17, "Rosetta," in which Clark learns of his Kryptonian origins courtesy of a scientist, who, in an effective bit of casting, is played by Superman film star Christopher Reeve. The complexity of the writing and issues dealt with in season 2 marked Smallville as a series with depth and drama worthy of its considerable fan following as well as a second boxed set; fittingly, the supplements in this set are more expansive than on the first one. Producers Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Greg Beeman and cast members Welling, Rosenbaum, and Kristen Kreuk weigh in on commentary tracks for two episodes ("Red" and "Rosetta"), while a trio of short featurettes explore Christopher Reeves's appearance in "Rosetta," the show's visual effects, and the amusing "Wall of Weird" web page maintained by Chloe (Allison Mack). The extras are rounded out by a handful of deleted scenes and a gag reel. --Paul Gaita

Superboy! October 31, 2008 I never have watched this very enjoyable TV series until I recently saw one of the shows on TV. I was hooked after the one showing! I went right to my computer and quickly ordered all of the seasons to this wonderful show and have watched all 7 seasons twice! This very talented cast grabs a person from the start. It is a very well written, fast paced show with everything in it that a viewer would want. The special effects are great and the plots get even better with each show. You feel yourself drawn into the lives of these characters and really can envision the early life of Clark Kent. I like it even better than the Superman movies. I like Tom Welling but really enjoy watching Annette O'Toole and John Schneider as Clark Kent's loving parents. Kristen Kreuk and Allison Mack as Clarks love interest and friend, also really round out this very talented group of actors and it would not be as good without Michael Rossenbaum as Clarks's friend and nemesis, Lex Luther. I highly recommend any of the seasons of Smallville.
Darker than season 1 October 14, 2008 Season 2 was more full of angst than season 1. Clark begins to be held accountable for his actions. There are many tension filled scenes in which he rushes off to save someone only to return and realize that things aren't ok with Lana, or Chloe or Lex, or Mom or Dad. In fact the season finale was really upsetting and Clark leaves Smallville after his actions have a heartbreaking effect on his mom and dad.
The acting was good, story line was good. I'm excited to see what they do with Season 3.
Clark's "saved" count, season 2 August 7, 2008 I like this season for the same reasons as the first season. Clark's discovering new powers, and it hasn't turned into a hopelessly complicated soap opera yet. And, to prove I have no life, I watched the season with a checklist in front of me, and here's what I counted as far as who Clark saved this season, and how many times.
Lana=4 Lex=3 Jonathan=1 Martha=2 Chloe=2 Pete=3 Lionel=2 Random Hot Chick=2 Random Guy=3 Someone who was just trying to kill Clark=2 Other (group of people, entire world, etc.)=0 Total individual saves, not counting "other"=24
Excellent Continuation to an Excellent Series! March 10, 2008 I love Smallville... Simple as that. Every time I hear Remy Zero belt out "Save me!" I get warm fuzzies. lol No, but this is a WONDERFUL show. I don't know if I've ever seen a show that blends great characters, great stories, great music and great acting as deftly as this show does. A must buy for the smallville watcher!
Second Season Smallville February 17, 2008 The year two is a continuation of the first. It reveals more and more about the Kent's and the town in general. It is of course a little hoaky and unrealistic, but entertaining.
