Product Description WHAT SEEMED LIKE A BREEZY IDEA FOR AN ENGINEER TO NET HIM MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, LEAVES HIM ON THE RUN FOR HIS LIFE AND PIECING TOGETHER WHY HE'S BEING CHASED.
Amazon.com The brainy, paranoid science fiction of writer Philip K. Dick has inspired one visionary classic (Blade Runner) and two above-average action movies (Total Recall and Minority Report). Paycheck aspires to follow in their footsteps: An engineer (Ben Affleck, Chasing Amy) routinely agrees to have his memory erased after every job so that he doesn't know what he's done. But after the biggest job of his life, he discovers that not only has he refused a $90 million paycheck, he's sent himself an envelope full of things he doesn't recognize--and he doesn't remember doing any of this. As he unravels the plot, he discovers he's also fallen in love (with Uma Thurman, Kill Bill) and invented a dangerous device for his former boss (Aaron Eckhart, Erin Brockovich). Affleck is bland, the script ruins a cunning idea, and the direction--from the normally dynamic John Woo (Face/Off)--plods along, aimless and bored. --Bret Fetzer

AFFLECK! January 19, 2010 Ellen C. Maze (Montgomery, AL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Off the bat, the movie's premise is very unique. Michael Jennings (Affleck) is a reverse engineer--he can take a new technology, disassemble it, and figure out how it was made. I love this! From the opening sequence, he takes a 3-D monitor technology and turns into a 3-D technology with no need of a monitor. He copied the engineering and made it better! Cool!
Now, after he collects his fee, he is offered another job by a college buddy named Jimmy (Eckhart). Turns out Jimmy is a bad guy, although you can see that by his evil countenance... and that of his stoogie (Colm Feore). I'm not spilling any beans here. Jimmy wants Michael to do something bad -- like build a machine that sees the future. Jimmy gets his machine, pays Michael 92 million dollars, end of story.
Nope.
Michael developed a conscience. He sees the machine will actually cause the end of the world so he works backward to stop the calamity and stop Jimmy's plan.
UMA -- blech. She moved like Kill Bill, but she looked rough. Blech
PAUL GIAMATTI -- wonderful, excellent, perfect, adorable, give him an oscar.
This movie has tons of action and an intelligent plot. Great for teens and adults, a good pop corn and pizza nite film. Try some today!

The ultimate NDA (non-disclosure agreement) January 11, 2010 Jim Gateley (Sunnyvale, CA) 4 of 5 stars for the sci-fi movie Paycheck. Ben Affleck plays a computer engineer who is hired to perform long-term top secret projects for an employer and then to have his memory wiped-clean after the project/contract completes. Talk about an NDA! After he exits from hs current project, the world is upside down and he has a pocket full of odds and ends. With no memory of the last several years, he tries to understand the items in his pocket (who, what and why???). Uma Thurman has a secondary role as his girlfriend. You travel along with our lead in his quest to figure out the items and what they mean. I give this a 4 as the plot is not very guessable and it keeps you glued to the action. I highly recommend this movie; you'll be surprised to learn what his project was all about.
A pleasant surprise of a movie! December 12, 2009 L Gontzes (Athens, Greece) Paycheck brings to the screen the story of an engineer who works on secret projects in exchange for big pay-checks and voluntary mind wipes that erase any memory of his work.
There are slight hints of Minority Report and even Time Cop so the movie falls into the action/adventure/mystery/thriller type of category.
Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman, Paul Giamatti and the rest of the cast carry out their performances very well.
The plot, the setting, the dialogues, the music, and the special effects, are all good, however, there is a significant flaw in the plot in that Ben Affleck's character should have remembered Rachael (played by Uma Thurman) since he met her (at a party) well before being injected with the mind erasing device.
In short, Paycheck is a movie definitely worth watching if you are in the mood for a decent thriller as it will surely provide for an evening's entertainment.
Relaxing fun, action-packed film (yes borrowed but so apt) October 3, 2009 drkhimxz (Freehold, NJ, USA) The title for the review is not quite what I was ready to put down, but as I glanced at the web-page for the film I couldn't help thinking it was inferior to that of the lead review so I "borrowed" that from Joanna Daneman-the whiz reviewer. Of course, I could simply have said "ditto" to the rest of her review and let it go at that....or, better still, not written this at all. However, that is not the way of the world, one wants to stick ones oar in even when it is not in the least required.
Why some films in the same genre, sci-fi shoot 'em up action, leave me cool, sometimes quite cold, while this one was just plain fun and good watching most of the time is a mystery. Strangely enough, I was not really taken by any of the actors, though Affleck did his job well as did the other players who weren't stunt men and women. That crew, as well, of course, as the designer and director of the action scenes, are certainly to be commended. The plot was a tried and true one, the gimmick a good one, the "end of the world" scenerio as good as most are in this type of film....Oh, yes, Uma Thurman, got to smile a lot and look winsome when not taking her part in the action scenes (naturally, in between the stunt cast filling in as needed). The other actors did what was required. the non-human aspects of the stunts were entertaining and, on the whole, a good time was had by all (well, by me, anyway).
