Creepy Ghost Story That Is Nice To Watch On A Stormy Winter Night November 15, 2008 "Nine Lives" had great potential. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The setting is perfect. Nine attractive college friends are snowbound in a huge manor in the secluded countryside of Scotland. (One can become literally lost in the manor's maze of rooms.) The atmosphere is creepy, cold, and foreboding.
The ghost of a Scottish land baron, Murray, is angry because his eyes were gouged out and his lands and home seized from him. He possesses one youth and begins to slaughter the others. The ghost passes from one body to another, reminding me of the alien creature in "The Hidden" and the demonic creature that was Jason Voorhees in "Jason Goes to Hell."
"Nine Lives" is a good slasher film in that the viewer doesn't know who will die next. However, there are no major revelations or surprises and no twist ending. In fact, the ending was rather mundane. This film is essentially standard slasher fare.
Paris Hilton's performance was also a disappointment. She receives top billing and I suspect her name appeal drew American audiences to rent this DVD. She is the only American in the film. The rest of the cast consists mostly of attractive Europeans with British and Scottish accents. Paris basically plays herself: a wealthy, spoiled socialite who lives a carefree, selfish life. She barely raises her voice when threatened. Paris' character is the first to die, which is early in the film.
"Nine Lives" shouldn't be bypassed altogether. It does have some startling moments and the snowbound setting is wonderful. This film is great to watch on a cold, wintry night when it is either raining or snowing hard outside.
OK for the genre (2.5/5) March 3, 2008 this movie is OK for the horror genre.it's nothing new or special, but the genre has produced worse.i didn't find the acting all that bad.again,it wasn't great, but i've seen worse.Paris Hilton is in this one,and is no better or worse than anyone else in the movie.i didn't find the movie particularly scary or thrilling.but then a lot of so called horror movies aren't scary, merely disgusting.but i did think it was passable entertainment for 85 minutes or so.if you go in expecting award winning acting, and anything but a time waster, you'll be disappointed.if you've never seen one of these types of movies, you might find it scary.otherwise, just enjoy watching characters doing the stupid things they do in these movies before getting dispatched.for me,Nine Lives is a 2.5/5

Anything having to do with Paris Hilton is doomed to be garbage. The premise of the story is trite and in the end leaves the audience wondering "whaaaaa". The only person not to die is scottish and that's the only reason why he didnt; because he's Scottish. WHAT????? Sick plot, dumb characters overall DULLLLL. How many movies will they make with "a group of friends in a secluded castle" Yes i borrowed the movie which is great compared to paying $20.00 for the DVD and wasting my money and time watching it. YAWWWWWWWWWWN!!!
0 STARS: Very poorly acted, unconvincing, uncompelling and lame. March 12, 2007 You just about need nine lives to get through this movie alive. In "Nine Lives", the acting is wooden and the action is totally unconvincing. The idea and setting of the movie may have worked, but the execution is so bad, the movie is totally uncompelling. None of the characters stick out with any degree of noticeability. Ultimately, "Nine Lives" comes across as totally and completely lame. I could barely stomach this movie to the end.
Sad, sad, sad but true February 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What the hell is this??? Why does Paris Hilton have her picture covered on DVD??? She only been played in the movie for a very short time I would say within like 10 to 15 minutes tops and that was it!!! I am very very disappointed with Paris Hilton!!! This movie isnt real I mean I like to watch horror movies that has some real actions and real killers and such ok what I mean is when Paris Hilton lay her front on the bathroom floor and there was NO blood on her back but just in front of her body but we can't see what it looks like... come on lets be real here!!! I am into horror movies and this movie is like "fake horror" movie I have ever seen!!! House Of Wax that Paris Hilton played in it has some REAL action the wax guy threw a long brown wood stick right through to Paris Hilton's head and it looks real but still I know it was just a movie but my point is fake and real horror movies!! But this one isnt real at all!! I want to see some real actions. I know theres something wrong and I see what reall wrong with this movie they are hiding something and there are alot of missing from this movie!! I honestly think Paris Hilton wanted to play in the movie for a very short time just because she really doesnt want to play the whole time movie so she could make ALOT of money or what??? I just dont know but all I know this movie is not right and something is missing and it's not making sense to me at all honestly. And someone took a picture of Paris Hilton on DVD cover??? OMG!!! What the hell is this??? I thought Paris Hilton would be able to play the whole time in the movie but I thought W-R-O-N-G!!! This is not worth it honestly!!! If you want something real get House Of Wax instead of this one!!!
