Amazon.com There's a reason why Cindy Crawford was dubbed "Baby Gia" when she first hit the modeling scene. Indeed, Crawford, now the world's best-known supermodel, greatly resembled model Gia Carangi, who went from high school to the cover of British Vogue in less than two years. Carangi appeared on many more covers of Vogue (French, British, Italian, and American) and Cosmopolitan before dying of complications from AIDS (she was an IV heroin user) in 1986. Now most people recognize Carangi's name from this powerful HBO film that stars Golden Globe-winner Angelina Jolie, who comes by her talent honestly. Jolie is the daughter of veteran actor Jon Voight, and her own training as a model serves her well--she has the moves. Throughout, she's heartbreaking--as no doubt the real Carangi was--effective, and stunning. With good source material (Stephen Fried's A Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia), Jolie's stunning performance, and strong directing by Michael Cristofer, the movie goes beyond the merely sensational. The script was cowritten by Cristofer and novelist Jay McInerney, whose Bright Lights, Big City covers similar territory. As a cautionary tale, Gia works. But to watch Jolie in her character's tragic self-destruction is utterly compelling. --N.F. Mendoza

Gia movie February 6, 2010 Leonard Erquiza (Providence Forge, VA USA) It's always good to learn history. I never new about this person because i was stationed overseas with the Air Force when this was taking place.
Gia January 2, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) America's first supermodel Gia Carangi lives hard and dies young in the glamorous, excessive urban wilds of 1970s New York City. The movie takes you deeper and deeper into a personality you feel you are part of, but are scared to become. This is a story with love, hatred, pain, joy, and many other emotions. Gia is superbly acted by Angelina Jolie, who captivates the true escence that the real Gia once had. I recomend this movie highly.
Warning: This movie is Intense. December 29, 2009 Artistic Mind It's the type of movie that once you see it you can't unsee it, you know? It stays with you. Angelina Jolie was amazing, I absolutely fell in love with her. I felt so apart of what was happening, I felt that I knew Gia and I cared about what she did. I'm sorry, my review isn't as good and deep as everyone else's, all I can say is when the movie was over I felt like I lost a friend. Even now, days after seeing the movie, I feel like someone special was lost.
I recommend buying this movie. I'd give it more than 5 stars if possible.
Suzanne December 19, 2009 Suzanne Lisa Kohr (York Haven PA) Really good movie about the life of Supermodel Gia. Angeline Jolie's performance was excellent and touching at times and brought Gia back to life in this emotional and sometimes sad story of Gia's life and tragic death. The movie touched me long after I was done watching the movie and made me feel really sad that someone so beautiful, could feel so unloved and alone. It made me think harshly towards the people involved in the fashion industry and made me feel that they at times are no bettter then the people who are involved in the buying and selling that takes place in underground of human trafficing.
Besides the obvious this turned out to be a good movie October 26, 2009 Daniel Delaware (Phx,Az) I bought it for obvious resones, but was surprise at the fact I thought it was a good movie.
