Not a good re-make June 23, 2009 M. JPharms (Malden, MA United States) This does not deserve 4 stars, I'm guessing these are folks who never saw the original film. The actors with the exception of Jason Alexander and Ty Dailey have no charisma and re-writing just doesn't work. I'm guessing trying to make it more palatable to younger audiences. Vanessa Williams comes across fake and forced as do most of the performances in this which is a shame because we need more musicals but maybe using unknown actors for a change might be something for the producers to thing about.
Bye Bye Birdie June 8, 2009 D. Schwemmer (Elkton, Md United States) Very Entertaining, I agree that Cynna Phillips was too old to play a 15 year old, but then again so was Ann-Margaret
Bye, Bye, Birdie April 23, 2008 Willow I thought this new rendition was great! The pairing of vocals (Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams) was awesome.
The definite 'Bye Bye Birdie' November 8, 2007 D. A. Nicastro 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For those who only remember the 1963 film version of BYE BYE BIRDIE, you have missed out of some of the original songs and the original plot. Albert is engaged to Rosie (who wants him to be an English teacher, not a scientist like in the 1963 film version.) This is true to the original Broadway version. There are a few new songs, but they work very well. Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams are wonderful! What a surprise to see both act, sing and dance (and well at that.) The only flaw is the casting of Cynna Phillips as Kim (she is much too old for the part.)Overall, skip the 1963 version and see this 'Birdie'. You'll be pleasantly surprised and much entertained.
Must have musical May 16, 2007 A. Cline Best of the two "Bye Bye Birdie" movies (1995) and (1963). I am not fond of any Jason Alexander's work, but this one is notable. My family wore the VHS tape out. This DVD is a replacement for the tape.
