Product Description The life of a college graduate working at a gift shop at Niagara Falls gets complicated after small inanimate objects begin talking to her; questioning her sanity she listens and the actions that she takes as a result begin to change the lives of those ar No Track Information Available Media Type: DVD Artist: WONDERFALLS Title: COMPLETE SERIES Street Release Date: 02/01/2005 Domestic Genre: TELEVISION
Amazon.com Wonderfalls is probably the most hilarious show you've never seen. An hour-long "dramedy" about a young woman who hears the voices of inanimate objects--which instruct her to help out total strangers--the show aired on Fox in early 2004 to critical acclaim and dismal ratings. After airing four times in terrible time slots, the show was quickly canceled, but not before a hue and cry from a small but fervently devoted cadre of fans went up, begging for all 13 episodes to be released on DVD. Thus, the highest-profile DVD release of a canceled show was born, and the nine unaired episodes of Wonderfalls are finally seeing the light of day. You may be wondering: is it worth it to check out a show that was axed so quickly? The answer is an unqualified yes, as Wonderfalls is quirky without being precious, sardonic without being bitter, and smart without being a show-off about it. Jaye (Caroline Dhavernas) is a graduate of Brown University who's opted not to put her education to work, and instead lives in a trailer and works at a tourist shop in Niagara Falls, to the consternation of her affluent, successful family. All seems to be going well for this self-proclaimed slacker, until one day a small toy lion speaks to her in enigmatic epigrams, commanding her to help people. Loath to deal in any compassionate way with the rest of humanity, Jaye warily obeys, if only to make the voices stop. Soon, though, she finds herself to be an unwilling humanitarian and accidental hero when more inanimate objects start talking to her, and more people turn out to need her help. The premise may sound a bit too off-the-beaten-path, but Wonderfalls' meddling with the ethereal was grounded in a keen awareness of post-college life and the travails befalling young twentysomethings who had no idea where their life was going. And instead of being sanctimonious or inspiring, the show was instead a complex mix of the heartfelt and the angsty, and Dhavernas was one of the most cynically hopeful heroines to grace the small screen. The rest of the cast was also topnotch, including Kate Finneran as Jaye's high-strung sister, Diana Scarwid as her caustic mother, and Tyron Leitso as bartender Eric, whose tentative romance with Jaye was both affecting and hilarious. Think of Wonderfalls as less of a failure and more of a rare opportunity to see some of the most creative television in recent memory. --Mark Englehart

Great series wish there was more February 1, 2010 pamela green (Orlando, FL USA) This was a great series just wish there was more. I love the corkyness of the characters and loved the wax lion.
If only a monkey talked to me, he might have warned me to stay away from this January 17, 2010 Marcus Aurelius (PA USA) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you like tripe, cheap chocolate, and Touched By an Angel, then this is the show for you. It's overreaching, incoherent, and just moronic. Oh yea, and it's $24.99.
Shouldn't Have Been Cancelled!!! January 4, 2010 Stephie (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wonderfalls is possibly one my all time favorite TV shows, and I just got this for Christmas last month! The characters are great, the stories funny, and the episodes progress in a hilarious and engaging manner. No doubt about it, Wonderfalls is a must see TV show. This collection also presents the show nicely. The packaging is attractive and consumer friendly, with a slip case and two DVD slim cases inside. The special features also include an interesting little documentary about the show. Its nice to see a high quality show like this presented in a high quality way. All I can say is that I cant wait to rewatch these delightful 13 episodes, and also that this show never should have been cancelled!
An Instantly Quirky, Clever, and Endearing TV Classic January 4, 2010 J. Schmidt (The Pacific Northwest) I just bought and watched this show last week and was completely blown away by its humor and originality. I will admit that it was not exactly what I expected. I came across the show being a big fan of another wonderful but cancelled TV show created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies, and was looking for something similar to curb my TV on DVD addiction. Wonderfalls definitely did not disappoint. It wasn't quite what I expected, its a little more young adult oriented and isn't as family friendly as Pushing Daisies, but it was just as delightful in its own way as Pushing Daisies. The show features many scenes of fast-paced humorous dialogue, and each episode's individual plot was entertaining. I also was pleased to see that, just like Pushing Daisies, its takes a fantastical and somewhat magical concept, but doesn't push it into the territory of absurdity. Caroline Dhavernas did an excellent job playing the seemingly selfish and sarcastic, yet completely lovable, protagonist Jaye. And in addition, I also loved Lee Pace as Jaye's brother, Katie Finneran as Jaye's sister, and Diana Scarwid as the mother. The acting pretty much matched the superb script, and each episode left me wanting more. In the end, although the conclusion was satisfying, I can't help but wonder what might have happened if this show had stayed on the air for a couple more seasons. It definitely deserved a better shot than Fox gave it. 5 stars, I would highly recommend this show to anyone who value humorous, quirky, and quality TV shows.
Wondering why this DVD is so highly rated December 17, 2009 Matthew Cordeiro 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought Wonderfalls without ever seeing the show. It had outrageously great reviews on Amazon. The concept is original and interesting - animal toys that reveal cryptic messages, and only one person hears them. This was actually the best part of the show. What do these messages really mean, and what will happen if Jaye follows or doesn't follow their instructions? I especially liked the instances when Jaye thought she was following their instructions, only to find out after some mishap that her assumptions were wrong. I think the show would have been better if this concept was developed further and given more airtime. Instead, it seemed like the show devolved into too much petty bickering and Gilmore Girls-style rapid, witty dialogue. I guess most viewers like this, but I found it to feel very fake. The characters' actions and reactions seemed very unnatural, and I attribute this to both mediocre scripts and mediocre acting. I admit the plots improved in the second half of the "season", especially the romantic tension, but this show overall failed to hold my attention. It was an okay show, but I won't bother to re-watch it.
