Product Description Terri Fletcher (Hilary Duff) is your typical sweet-hearted, small-town girl and she always obeys her intensely overprotective dad (David Keith), but when she gets accepted to a summer program at a prestigious Los Angeles music school and he forbids her to go, she realizes it's time to break away. With the help of her cool aunt (Rebecca De Mornay), Terri figures out a ruse to sneak off to LA and seize the chance to actualize her musical dreams. Once there, it's harsh wake-up time however, as she realizes being naive, adorable, blonde, un-pierced, and un-tattooed means being ostracized in this too-cool musical community. Luckily John Corbett, a sympathetic music teacher, is there to help, and there's time for romance to bloom with a British classmate (Oliver James). Before this little star can truly blossom though, she still has to cope with the trauma of losing her brother in a car accident (it's left her terrified of bright lights, a real problem for a stage performer) and then there's the matter of telling the truth to her furious father. Duff's effortless charisma lifts this sturdy, comfortably worn-in vehicle easily over the bumpier clichs, and delivers it safely to its inspiring destination.
Amazon.com Perky teen starlet Hilary Duff wholeheartedly embraces the kind of earnest innocence all parents wish their daughters had. In Raise Your Voice, Terri Fletcher (Duff, A Cinderella Story, The Lizzie McGuire Movie) yearns to go to a prestigious music conservatory in Los Angeles. Her father (David Keith, An Officer and a Gentleman) won't let her because L.A. is a bad place--but her loving mom (Rita Wilson) and kooky aunt (Rebecca DeMornay, Risky Business) sneak her away. Once there, she gets a sassy roommate-of-color, geeky cool friends, a snooty rival, and a sexy British boyfriend (Oliver James, What a Girl Wants). Of course, all conflicts with family and friends come to a head at a big competition at which Terri rediscovers herself. Formulaic? Yes (see also Fame, Dirty Dancing, and School of Rock). Bland? Yes. Will preteen girls enjoy it anyway? Maybe, because Duff plays it so sincere. --Bret Fetzer

LOVE IT March 29, 2009 Ash I really love Hilary Duff and think she is just such a cute actress so I really liked this movie. It is sort of a cliche movie about a girl trying to find where she belongs and having a crush on a boy while at a summer school. Although it is sort of an overdone subject, this movie was very well done and think its an excellent movie.
I enjoyed this flick! March 26, 2009 R. Fly I dont think this movie is really good for kids under 8. Because of kissing and there was no swearing in the movie every one is like " This movie has swearing " But it does not gosh! I love oliver james and hillary duff the plot was good the romance of the flick was really good I think it is personally best to be like 10 and up to watch it ( Wich i am ) I really enjoyed it. I was surprised at hillary duff drama acting!
Love this movie- February 24, 2009 Phyllis A. Andress (South Dakota) Saw this movie on TV and had to have it - ordered it and had it within days.
cute movie December 10, 2008 heroesfan#1 (Garland, UT USA) This is probably one of Hilary Duff's best movies, not that that's saying a lot, but I think this movie is worth seeing.
An Awesomely Bad Gem for Classical Singers November 19, 2008 K. Smiley (Evanston, IL) This movie is completely ridiculous to anyone who knows anything about music. It is, for all intents and purposes, one of the most terrible movies ever made, but there is an enjoyable "awesomely bad" element for people who actually know about classical singing. Seeing "Caro Mio Ben" portrayed as this impossibly difficult song, even though it is the first and easiest classical piece, any singer learns, is quite funny. My personal favorite scene is when she sings "Caro Mio Ben' for her "scary" slavic music teacher the second time around because there is a metronome beating loudly in the back ground, yet Hilary Duff is singing in a completely unrelated tempo. In summation, every classical singer should watch this and have a laugh. There is no other reason to watch this movie. The director and actors obviously have no respect or knowledge of music.
