Amazon.com When you start watching Racing Stripes, you may not be prepared for how unbelievably cute a young zebra is. A travelling circus accidently abandons an adorably helpless zebra in the middle of Kentucky on a stormy night. Fortunately, the wee zebra is found by Nolan Walsh (Bruce Greenwood, The Sweet Hereafter), a brilliant horse trainer who's given up his calling after a riding accident that killed his wife. His daughter Channing (Hayden Panettiere, Raising Helen) names the zebra Stripes and, before you know it, Stripes has grown to young adulthood and is aching to race at a nearby track. Thus begins a fairly formulaic triumph-over-adversity tale combined with talking animals--but Racing Stripes understands its formula and executes it without any pretensions. It doesn't hit the bullseye struck by Babe (an earlier triumph-over-adversity tale combined with talking animals), and there are bad puns and gags aplenty, but Greenwood's solid presence gives the movie an unexpected emotional fullness. Featuring a bizarre assortment of voices for the animals, including Whoopi Goldberg, Dustin Hoffman, Frankie Muniz, Mandy Moore, Joe Pantoliano (as a Mafioso pelican), Steve Harvey, David Spade, and Snoop Dogg. --Bret Fetzer

A cute movie for the whole family March 22, 2010 Daniel Schubert (RPF) I have seen this movie in the theater when it first came out and since then I am a fan of it. So I finally bought it here and I can only say that is it well done in the animations for the animals, the plot is sweet and teaches that is doesn't matter what ou are...you can still be a winner.
Its great for the parents..or the kids..or both together.
Racing Stripes at a great price March 4, 2010 Wendy M. Stumbaugh (Richfield, Ohio) Thanks for a quick shipment and great priced DVD. It's one of my daughter's favorites and our library lost its copy. We decided to buy this one and donate it for other's pleasure, too!
a Kid's review March 4, 2010 It's a nice movie when the animals don't talk, the zebra is cute in it but when he talks then he is a little bit childish. The flys are annoying in it, the goat has annoying voice and is childish. A horse named Sandy is the only one who isn't childish, and the pelican is really disturbing in the movie. The whole film was good but the way they were talking was a bit annoying.
Stripes - a Great Movie February 28, 2010 C. H. Mitchell A story about a lost zebra being raised by a legendary race horse trainer (Nolan Walsh) and his daughter (Channing) following some years after a racetrack accident causing the death of her mother and drove Nolan into retirement. But the zebra had a love for running and a high volt competitive heart. The other figures are a Shetland pony (Tucker, a goat (Fran), a Pelican (goose) a rooster (Reggie), 2 flies, (Buzz and Scuz), and Stripes' love interest horse,Sandy. There are also a host of other characters. Special effects were great as each animal was trained to do the things that were needed for the movie and with computer technology caused the screen images of the animals to appear to really talk. The work here was simply without equal. The plot centers on bringing the trainer (and Tucker)out of retirement to train Stripes for the Kentucky Open, a race for the best of the best. Dalrymple Stables had dominated the race for some time while Walsh was the trainer there. The animals seeing that Channing also loved to race saw that Nolan's fear of training horses after the accident extended to fear of letting Channing grow up. They set out to and did succeed in jarring Nolan into snapping out of it - and so the training of Stripes began to prepare him for the Kentucky Open as a challenger to the prohibitively favored Dalrymple entry, Trenton's Pride. Race day has some consisitency issues. Huge race but WalMArt parking lot set. The broadcasting voices were too hard to hear and reporters missed the bigger story - Nolan Walsh, ex-Dalrymple Trainer, out of retirement to train a ZEBRA to be ridden against Nolan's ex-employer, Dalrymple, by Channing Walsh, daughter of the trainer and also daughter of a champion female jockey of note. This latter connection was missed ENTIRELY by the background audio broadcast reporters (it would NEVER be missed). Stripes wins the big race, beating Pride, and they become friends. Sir Trenton, Pride's father and the villain of the movie, had kept them from a decent relationaship that you sense both Stripes and Pride wanted. Lots more to this movie and it is chock full of very good character lessons. For example, None of the Trenton line of champions had ever bothered to thank Tucker for helping to train them. Stripes in a moving moment broke from the winner's circle and humbly shrugged the collar of roses that was given to him onto Tuckers's shoulders and he was then took Tucker into the winner's circle with him. The human actors were all brilliant and the great actresses of today had better watch out for Hayden Pannetiere who was stunning. I am not a big Whoopie Goldberg fan but as Fran she was absolutely amazing. Same can be said of Dustin Hoffman who was well-matched to Whoopi. One of the few top family movies ever. Its complexity and quality surprised me as much as the more violent Kevin Costner's The Bodyguard. I bought several of each from Amazon. Stripes is the movie of champions!
Racing Stripes (Widescreen Edition) January 19, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) In the middle of a raging thunderstorm, a traveling circus accidentally leaves behind some very precious cargo--a baby zebra. The gangly little foal is rescued by horse farmer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to his young daughter Channing. Once a champion thoroughbred trainer, Walsh has given up horse training for a quiet life with Channing on their modest Kentucky farm. The little zebra, or "Stripes," as Channing calls him, is soon introduced to the farm's misfit troupe of barnyard residents, led by a cranky Shetland Pony named Tucker and Franny, a wise old goat who keeps the family in line. The group is joined by Goose, a deranged big-city pelican who's hiding out in the sticks until the heat dies down in Jersey. The un-aptly named bloodhound Lightening keeps a lazy eye on goings-on at the farm - in between naps. The Walsh farm borders the Turfway Racetrack, where highly skilled thoroughbreds compete for horse racing's top honor, the ultra-prestigious Kentucky Crown. From the first moment Stripes lays eyes on the track, he's hooked--he knows that if he could just get the chance, he could leave all those other horses in the dust. What he doesn't know is--he's not exactly a horse. But with characteristic zeal, he devotes himself to training for the big time, with a little help from Tucker, who has coached a host of champion racehorses in the past. Highly recommend this one for the whole family.
